Fast and functional. Those were the first two words that popped into my head after 5 minutes of using Aero Center by KD Themes. This theme is perfect for everybody who owns a blackberry, whether for personal use or for business. Inspired by Window's Media Center, there are many things which make this theme unique.
The homescreen has numerous features, all which, in my opinion, increase the functionality of this theme. There is a vertical sliding dock, with sub-sections that contain all of the most-used parts of the Blackberry OS, such as SMS and MMS, Blackberry Messenger, and Sound profiles. When on the main 'menu', the user can select the app they would like to use by moving the trackpad left or right, or can select other sub-sections by moving the trackpad up or down. In addition to all that, there is an dock, where the first 6 icons on the application screen show. This, combined with the Windows Media Center-like menu, will render your application screen redundant.
The Home Screen
One thing that would be extremely helpful to people with this theme, is the hidden today preview. This means that the Today area will show when you select the 'Messaging' sub-section, and I know this feature is welcomed by many people who use Messaging frequently.
Another feature of this theme, which would have been the most time-consuming, is the custom-made icons. Anyone who is a theme developer knows what it means to have custom-made icons. Hard work and many hours in front of a computer are just the beginning of what he has done to create these icons.
The other great thing about this theme is that it is very fast. Before I downloaded this theme onto my Curve, I had a little feeling that this theme would slow down my device, and I would have to remove it due to the memory space it might take up. Surprisingly, the theme is as fluid as the official theme from RIM, and the memory space is almost half of what I expected. To achieve the rapid response to the user's input, KD themes has hand-coded the SVG used in this theme, which means that the code is fast, and that there is no extra code, or 'garbage' code, that makes this theme slower.
This theme is without it's faults, as with any other theme on the market. One nuance is that the font size for dialog boxes is a whopping 14, which is a big size. Another thing is that the Time, Signal and Battery meters are squeezed at the top of the screen, where one cannot see them properly. Other than that, I don't see any other things that the developer didn't overlook.
In conclusion, this theme is one of the best that I have ever come across. The menu style home-screen is the best thought-up idea from KD, in my opinion. I greatly recommend this theme.
