Thread: Memory leak and shrink on .328

Ok please read this first. I am doing this poll to try and see why some are having memory leak very badly on .328. So that being said, only take this poll if you are having the memory leak problem PLEASE. It will be much more beneficial to all if only those having it post here.

So if you have that problem did you shrink or not?

I booted up last night at 9:45pm at 32mb of app memory. It is 12.27pm and I am down to 9.4mb of app memory. I had the same problem with .238. Before upgrading to .328, I even went down to 0mb of app memory. I did not shrink either OS.

Josh, this is a good poll...but I know of many people that said .328 just leaks memory more than previous builds...Even testers know that, unfortunately. (same goes with battery usage...) :17:

I was hoping maybe to figure something out but already seeing a pattern so I dont think its anything that is going to be fixed with out a hybrid

I shrunk to 46.84 and after installing lots of games and apps I've been running at 37mb , no leaks here...

Probably. I did shrink...and I wouldn't say my memory necessarily leaks, but it fluctuates quite a bit. Also, remember that apps are a big factor....and I still believe apps like Viigo, Weatherbug, etc., keep on leaking memory. This OS is larger in size as well and uses way more resources to run, which in turn also affects memory. So, I think hybrids may help, but not as much as we rely on them to. It's perfect for odin, though, with all that RAM :07: :cool2:

I shrunk 323 and 328. 323 leaked really bad for me. 328 has been fairly stable. Small amount of leak but nothing like 323.

Another point is the OS usually takes a few days to settle...so what memory is doing now, may change.

i cant seem to shrink. when i click shrink my os, it says i have 0mb in my java before and after "shrinking" am i missing something?

i did shrink my os. it was around 31.49 MB. I took out all except BBM, BB Maps, Default fonts, default themes, voice note recorder. I also manually took out the new games with the large sizes(monopoly, etc) and VCAST.

I start with 45.2 MB when i rebooted at 10:24 am this morning. At 4:25 i'm at 23Mb. i have has the software on the storm since it leaked out on Sunday night.

I will post back with updates on the lowest memory i get.

You did install OS to pc? Also, make sure to select the destination OS.

Are you selecting the OS folder in Shrink-A-OS? Click browse and navigate to the OS folder.

yes. i have never had a problem shrinking any other os. this only started happening on .323, and now on .328

I did a full shrink and no memory leak at all. Didn't have any either with 323

yeah i dl the file from vzw then shrank it. Didnt even have bbm or bb maps. once installed went back and put those back in and updated to bbm5 and for 14 hrs ive been sitting at 49 mb.

I have a memory leak with .328 but it doesn't seem to be as bad a with .323.....I have only had .328 installed for 13 hours now and I went from 35.8 down to 22.9 with hardly any use at all. .323 would drop me down into the single digits within a 24 hours period. Even with the memory dropping so low the lag didn't get bad until it got down to 1MB.

Not sure what is causing the leak yet because I haven't had time to troublshoot my apps, but I have the same apps I had with earlier OS's that didn't leak.

I figure BBC's next hybrid will take care of it so I'm not too worried

I'm pretty stable at 25.5mb with the following 3rd party Apps:

Berryweather
Meterberry
Opera Mini 5 Beta
Stitcher Radio
Crackberry App Store (Don't flame me!!)

Plus I have MSN, Yahoo, facebook signed in all the time and I have 2 custom themes installed... All in all, I think I'm comfortable with the memory...

i shrunk both 323 and 328 i had very little leaks on 323 and it is getting bad on 328

I had the leak, past tense, I started up last night with 39mb woke up this morn at 14 mb 6am. deleted meterberry and wen tback to 40 MB and I am at 39 MB now. So people should check their 3rd party apps, they may be the cause.

I change my vote. I am experiencing pretty bad memory leak. .238 was more stable with memory for me
