Thread: Help! Dropped my Storm in the can!

Ok. Somehow, I managed to drop my storm on the toilet. :17:

Battery immediately came off and I dried it the best I could. I have the red square-o-death in the battery compartment.

Phone is turned on, and it is ringing when I call I call it, and it is alerting me of emails. The LED light is on, but there IS NOOOOO SCREEN!! :cussing:

So, my question is, what should I do? I have insurance, but don't I still need to pay for a replacement? Verizon. Is there some good lie I can give Verizon to tell them the phone is defective so they will give me a new one? Had it since February. Anyone know how to fake the red square, and make it white again? Will the techs there scratch it and see if I painted it? Will they open the phone and find water? Is there a way to open the phone and dry it out without voiding my warranty?

What is your experience with Verizon insurance?

Try putting it in a Ziploc bag (or sealed container) full of rice for 24 hours. That will dry it out the best. Insurance wont cover water damage period and yes they will see it was damaged. Better off to say it was stolen to get insurance to cover it (if that's what you want to do). There is a solid chance that the rice trick will help out a lot.

fill out your insurance form online...pay 50 bucks and get your new phone in the mail probably tomorrow

insurance does cover water damage...any damage for that matter...even loss or theft

Hey Beachbunnimom - there should be a water indicator on the battery and in the battery compartment of the phone, if that is red or pink then you are going to have a hard time selling the fact that there is no "liquid damage" to the handset. If both test strips are still white then you might be able to make a case with the store. First n foremost what I would advise you to try is to put your phone w/o battery into a cup (or bag) of rice, sometimes not always the rice will pull the moisture from the phone and it might actually come back. Give that a try and see what happens but more important check your liquid indicators to see if the color has changed. hope this helps n good luck..

I've personally been denied for water damage 2x with 2 different phones by VZW...unless they changed a policy or something in the past 6 months.

your talking about warranty....insurance will cover it

Call assurion not vzw (assurion is the ins company) they can do all the looking up and everything on their end.. i dont have the number handy.

Well that sucks when the tour was being released I used my upgrade for my wife's phone because it got wet 2 days before the launch and I didn't try because of that. And I totally had insurance on the phone. :aargh4::duh:

Contrary to popular belief, insurance does cover water damage. Also, for the most part, you have to have 2 of your 3 liquid indicators set off before a representative will force you to do insurance.

My recommendation, TAKE IT INTO VZW. If they say that it's water damaged, give a little push back and deny it. If they fold and give you a warranty replacement, CONGRATS! Otherwise, take the Asurion phone number and get your overnighted equipment for your deductible and consider it a good try.

Nothing against you paymentd but she mentioned the watermark on the phone in the battery area is bad... vzw will replace if it was only the battery but if even one marker on the phone is faded they will not, not anymore any how..

Go for the bag of rice trick..... Give it 24hrs BUT DON'T TURN IT ON!

P.S. Leave the hair-dryer alone as well!

Talk about a great response!! Yes, the can was clean. I had the phone in my waste band and I bent over to pick up my daughter who was about to stick her hands in it.

I did not try the hair dryer, though I thought of it. I've never heard the rice trick. May just do the trick! Thanks for that great advice!!

If that fails, I will do the store, and then insurance. Where is the 3rd water marker? Battery, 1; battery compartment, 2; and 3?

I WISH they would swap it for a Storm 2, but I know Verizon......

if you had the phoine for under a year you can get it replaced for free, i know cause i did just that.

That's the warranty, warranty will not cover Water Damage

Water damage is NOT covered by the store.

If you phone has gotten wet and you have insurance you need to call the insurance company

Try the hairdryer on low but keep it moving and don't let it sit in one spot! I did this with my hubby's brand new phone 2 months ago and it worked like a charm! I took the battery out and took it apart some, yes, I am crazy! His wasn't a bb, but it worked!
