There must be a way to do this - how do I place an icon on my home screen which directs the device to go to a specific web site - perhaps a duh question

Quicklaunch will do that. You can download it from App World for about 5 bucks.

I think what your asking about are called launchers and yes most sites have them. For blackberryos if your mobile its the top option in the menu.



You can also d/l via your pc and load it onto your device through DM/ apploader.

Couldn't you change your homepage to the desired site, and just hit the browser icon?

I know you can create these when building a theme too. But making it your home page on your browser is the easiest.
