Hello

I just installed Vista and now DM is having a problem with backing up my Storm. DM sees the Storm because my pin # shows up. Is there something I need to do extra for Vista?

What version of Vista are you running?

Im running vista and it works good

Vista 32 bit. Does it matter if I used XP to install the os on the phone?

Nope, I have the same vista. OK, answer a few questions.
1 Did you reinstall Dm after converting to vista.
2. Have you tried deleteing USB controllers for blackberry in device manager.
3. Is DM set to "run as administrator" in compatibility tab of proporties.

Lets start with that.

Communication error between the device and the desktop manager. Also the auto play comes up with some choices but I just close it out.

Auto play is normal. Its a quick launch to view/edit your sD card and phone.

Delete Rim virtual serial port in ports?

Plug in your phone to pc. On your pc go to control panel/device manager. It should look like this.



right click on the ones I highlighted and select uninstall. This will reinstall the phone drivers on the phone. Unplug and plug back in and it will install them.

No, I had this problem before. You said when you are trying to back up your phone, it gives you this error. correct? If so, ya, I had this problem before.

Open your DM up again, plug yoru phone in so it shows connected. Go to your back up option and start your back up, once that status bar comes up, hit cancel!! that should then start the actual back up. Try that, let me know if that works for you. it did for me.

Nice. Come to think of it, the same happen to me a while ago. And thats basically what I had to do.

Thanks for taking the time to help. Shane I tried the uninstall and that didn't work. Blackberryos I'm not sure I get what you're saying, I don't see an option to start backup from the options in the backup. What about re installing DM?

What he is saying is when you select Backup/restore then select backup, When it starts to backup it gives you an error. If you hit cancel, it then backsup.

When I tried the Add Remove it seemed to work fine. I wonder why it's having a problem with backups...

You can try that.

What I meant is go to back up your phone like you normally would. Once you see the status bar appear, hit the cancel button. This is what I did then after hitting the cancel bar, it started the regular back up process.

Question, when you go to back up the screen that appears, does it show two status bars or one status bar?

go into your browser options and delete your cache, pushed contents and cookies.
do a batt pull.
then try it.

That is the exact problem i had...

is it asking you about "enabling mass storage mode?"

If so, then answer no...do not just close it out. let us know if that works.
