Thread: Why unlock Storm?

once a phone is unlocked, is it unlocked forever? (planning ahead on when i want to sell my Storm on ebay when i get my storm 2 LOL)

Pretty sure you can't since Boost Mobile uses an iDEN network. I don't think the Storm has the ability to use that network.

Yes, when a phone is unlocked it will be unlocked forever. And you are correct that unlocking a phone gives it more value on ebay. From what I have seen and the phones that I have sold it added at least 50.00 to the end price. Lastly, if you could hold off on selling your Storm 1 for a few weeks to give me a better chance of selling mine.

Ok so "WHY Unlock the Storm".

Because people want to be different. So in my business we do unlock the Storm. We unlock about 4 to 6 a week. We also load the correct files to make it work on the correct gsm system. Meaning the Berry Msgr, GPS, and other blackberry specific progams work. Oh and the pix/vid/txt work.....Oh It also make calls. :arms:

You are quite correct, it is impossible. In looking around online it has been tried with an unlocked Storm and and Unlocked/Jailbroking Iphone and neither would pick up the signal due to the incompatible networks, (GSM vs IDEN/CDMA).

Welcome to BBOS, and I agree there is a market for it. And people just don't like locked when they can be unlocked.

Our customers don't unlock the phone just to be different. 99% of customers that unlock are wanting to use their Blackberry on a different GSM carrier. The other 1% are unlocking to sell. An unlocked phone has more value because it can be use on any GSM carrier worldwide not just one.

You are correct Sunkast. Verizon is CDMA and Sprint is IDEN. Two completely different technologies. They are not compatible.

For me there is no reason to unlock your phone from VZW unless you are traveling overseas or the reception where you live is not good on the VZW network. Besides that it does increase the value of the sale, but in IMO VZW has the best network in the states.

If you unlock your blackberry storm mobile from network lock using instructions and code.Once you unlocked it,you can use any gsm network sim in the mobile at any country.This is the main benefitTo install more application use user manual.
