Fyi: caps = network coverage and RIM coverage. No caps = just network coverage.

For example:
1x = voice network, no RIM services.
1X = voice network with RIM services available, just slow.
1xev = 3G network, no RIM services.
1XEV = 3G network, RIM services available.

If you don't have caps on your coverage indicator non RIM apps will work. Opera and 3rd party I.M. As examples.
