Thread: Bring it on! Question about upgrading OS on Storm

So got my new phone, got it all fixed up and back to how I had my previous one. Look at me go! ha ha.
Next step, upgrade my OS. Cant remember where I saw the links for the upgrade...now do I have to do a complete wipe before upgrading or do I just go ahead and load one...also, which is the best one?

My suggestion is to upgrade to the BBC's lastest hybrid which can be found here:

In terms of wiping there is no need to do so unless you run into issues. The instructions including a video or on the first post of the link above.

My .02(U.S.) for what it's worth:
No wipe required.
I'd load either OS .132 or .148 . They both have been pretty good for many users (No flaming please, I know some of you have issues). At any rate, once you've had a little evaluation time with either of these, your PC will already be properly configured to move on to Crackman's hybrid. Please know that, for whatever reasons, different Storms demonstrate different results with just about every operating system officially released, leaked, or created (hybrid) by those who labor tirelessly in the persuit of something better than RIM released. You're starting out on an MTS device with an official .122 OS. How has that been working for you? In my opinion, that was NOT one of the finer examples of a good OS so updating can likely only help.

There are some very knowledgable folks (the wizards of OS) on the site that can get you through just about any glitch you encounter in the updating process so don't worry. And, MTS has a downloadable, official release of .122 should the need ever arise to return your device back to its original state.

I did my upgrade this morning. At least I think I did. I d/l 0.132 yesterday and when I plugged in to my pc this am there was an update available to I went through the steps and updated. However once it was completed my phone rebooted and has now been "working" on the DM for quite some time. Is that normal? I'm not sure what its 'working' at but I am a little concerned about unplugging it from the computer at the moment.....lil help?

How long has it been working? what does your phone show on it's display?

I ended up just unplugging it as it didn't appear that it was really doing anything. It is working fine and I apparently successfully upgraded to .132.

You should see 4.7.0.132 listed as the version.

I have a question. If I use the official .148 os from Verizon, can I still download and use the v6 hybrid

You sure can. You would just install V6 right over 148.

What does brick the phone mean? Locking it up?

Btw, checked the options/about and it is the .132 version.

There a lot of connotations to this word but essentially it means that your phone is unuseable and the only way to get it to work again is to reload system software. You essentially brick your phone when you wipe with programs like JL commander and Crackutil but there are other ways you can brick it as well.
