Thread: Problem installing DM...

I have been having trouble re-installing my DM.

The Installation Wizard returns the error "the wizard was interrupted before Blackberry Desktop Software could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

I have tried virtually everything, but I can't seem to re-install the software. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure the old DM has been completely removed. Go to C:/Program Files/ and delete the research in motion folder, then go to /Common Files and delete the Research In Motion folder. Reboot your PC then reinstall DM.

Unfortunately that did not work either.

What version of DM are you trying to install? I would suggest an older version or DM 5.0 and see if any of those work for you.

I would uninstall (thru add/remove programs) all OS and blackberry related everything, then reboot PC and start installing DM fresh (before installing anything else)

Thanks I have tried all given suggestions and I am still getting the same error.

I have a Mac with Fusion and XP. It was running fine, now it is not. I did some cleaning and updating, but still no change. I am about to try 4.6, I have tried 5.0 and 4.7

Yeah, try it and see. Also, I am gonna search and see if I can suggest more solutions for ya.

Try renaming the InstallShield folder in x:\Program Files\Common Files, InstallSheildOLD will work. And run the install again.
Also what service pack is installed in XP? Might want to just use SP2, SP3 is known to cause issues sometimes.
Worse comes to worse, just re-install XP on your VM.

Hmmmm...Since I am not finding the InstallShield folder (did a search even) could that be the problem? I know the mac very well, and a knew DOS many years ago (I'm dating myself), but I am not that familiar with Windows. I do have SP3 installed, but that was just updated last night, so that should not be the source of the issue.!

In XP, goto My Computer > Local Drive(usually C) > Program Files > Common Files, and you should see the InstallShield folder in there.
Also make sure the user account your using in windows is not a limited account.

Here's a couple other things to try:

1- Run this from the command prompt:
cd %windir%\system32
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
Should get a successful message.
2- Download Microsoft Windows Script Host Version 5.6

I finally just gave up :banghead:, backed up and reinstalled Windows and all the other software and now it is running fine.:dance:
