Thread: Tethering question: Alternative tethering programs?

Does anyone have experience with the alternative tethering programs to use w. the Storm (assuming one isn't willing to pay the extra fee from Verizon for the "privilege" of occasionally tethering)?

I've heard good things about Tetherberry but am curious if there are others I should consider.

There is a tetherberry app....I don't tether, so I can't tell you whether its good or bad....I just remember seeing a debate on the whole tethering situation

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I splurged for it to avoid the risk of motel-related wi-fi fees this summer. Seems to work well.

PdaNet by June Fabrics is supposed to work with the Storm as well. I had used with my old Treo 700P and it work very well and was easy to use. I have not tried it yet with the Storm. They do have a trial period available.

I read a great deal about both alternatives in the "other" forum. Here's what the majority seem to say about both:

PdaNet is much cheaper than Tetherberry: $30 vs. $60
Tetherberry is faster and more user-friendly.

I can't confirm the latter. Too bad it's not cheaper though. Maybe Natemz can provide a little more insight on upload/download speed comparisons?

Overall I believe tetherberry is the best and the way to go from what i have heard from many members.

I think it all boils down to how much you are going to be tethering. I don't really tether that much. I've also heard that tetherberry is a better overall app. But for me PDAnet works just fine for me when needed. I used it on my old Motorola Q as well.

I suggest downloading the free trial of PDAnet and giving it a spin for a week or two and see if it works for you. Also Tetherberry offers a "no questions asked money back guarantee". So what I would do is try PDAnet and then purchase TB. If TB works better then great. If not get your money back and get PDAnet. :09:

As far as download speeds go, I never really tested each heavily. But from I remember from the TB beta, it was about the same as PDAnet.
