Got a Free Storm from friend and need help

I got a free Storm last Friday from a friend. I have Verizon and called them to help me get setup. We got almost everything done, except when I call *228 and enter option 1 to get the over the air program or activation it keeps failing. The Verizon tech said I may have to wait until 26May09 before it will be able to update, something about a port. And when I use the BlackBerry Messenger it still has my friends screen name of luckie and I don't know where or how to change it. Can anyone help with either of these issues?

Try dialing *22899 and see what it says. And for BBM, go in to BBM>bb button>edit my info and change display name

BBM should be under the IM folder. As far as *22899 not working im not really sure, that activates the phone and updates the PRL in once easy call. You may have to wait like Verizon had said...

You can try manually programming. Call VZW and get your MDN (Phone #), MIN, and SID. Once you have that info, dial ##000000 and press "Talk". Then enter your MDN, MIN, and SID. Or you can go to a store and they SHOULD know how to manually program your phone for you.
Porting your # from a different carrier shouldn't' affect activation. You just won't be able to receive calls on your Storm until the port goes through, but you should be able to make calls out during that time. Porting usually takes 30 min.-48 hours, unless you ported in a land line#. Then it can take up to 10 days. Hope this helps.
Bryan's Blog, lots of good info:
