Thread: DM not connecting to Storm

I'm in middle of installing a new os on my storm, it upgraded the phone, and now its up to the restore the phone restarted and its not connecting the DM is saying "connecting to device" and its not connecting.
A window popped up saying "welcome to found new hardware wizard" and then says "cannot install hardware" and is sitting like this for 30 minutes already...
I'm using windows xp, never had this issue before.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Yes I know this issue happened to me more times that I care for. Here is what you should do:

1. Disconnect your BB from your computer
2. Pull the battery and put it back in. Let the phone restart. This will probably take about 5 minutes or so.
3. Do not close DM let it continue and it will it could not restore the device.
4. the message will give a location something like restore from the following location: \\.host\Shared Folders\My Documents
5. Inside that location will be a loader backup.ipd file with today's date.
6. Drag that file to the desktop
7. Now close DM, reopen it connect your BB and do a restore from that file once your phone has rebooted.
8. You're done.

Keep these instructions handy because this has happened to me oh about a dozen times. If something doesn't make sense let us know.

Its still not working.. every time i plug the phone in it asks to install the drivers and doesnt work.

Maybe wipe and reinstall the OS? If not it may be a hardware issue and may need to get the phone replaced (not what you wanna hear lol)

What version of Desktop Manager are you using?

seems like if your drivers for the blackberry are missing, connect the phone to the pc and run the new hardware wizard, once done retry the restore...

if that doesnt work then you will need to reinstall the DM, to do so:
uninstall desktop manager
restart you pc
install desktop manager
and restart the pc again..

dont be scare that happens more often than the people think...

Its wierd because my friends 8830, and 8330 both get recognized on my computer.

I ended up copying the backup files to my friends laptop and did a restore like that

I have DM 4.7 my friend has 4.5 dunno if that could be the answer to the problem..

You can always try downloading DM 5.0 I believe Stiefler uses it with no issues

Thats right, one night 4.7 gave me so many issues and i got it resolved and 5.0 ever since

i use 5.0 here since the day 1, when was found, have nothing wrong to report about it....

so it's backwards compatible? I've had some issues with 4.7

are there any benefits to 5.0?

Yes its backwards compatible, i think that 5.0 is less buggy, tho it is a beta so bugs can always arise a some point and time

The only change I noticed is faster syncing, went from 6-8 min to 2 min.

first off, it is compatible with no issues, about 4.7 all i can say it was to buggy, notice i say was, why? well there is a version that was released around april 24th, that has not too many bugs, my suggestion for those having troubles with 4.7 is fully uninstall DM and download again from the blackberry site and install again....


coming back to 5.0, yes does have some enhancements, example when you are loading a os or apps, in the part when dm is waiting for device initialization it has a statement that say this can take up to 30 mins, comes with media manager included, and also is in my opinion a lil bit faster than other dm versions, also if you click the check for updates option for os, give you a list os the availables os online and in your pc as well...
