Running Storm without the SD card.....

I remembered this a while ago and decided give it a try again on a new OS. Back when we were on leaks like .109 I was informed that the reason the Storms in the VZW store ran flawlessly on .75 is because there was not an SD card in them. Turns out on .109 it ran almost perfectly for me without one in. But what really is the point having your Storm that comes with an 8g card and not use it, right? So I put the card back in and forgot about it.

For the past few hours I've been running v5 without the SD inserted and it is amazing! Acelleromiter seems faster (unless I'm crazy), I usually sit around 20 -25 of memory (all the themes I have loaded) and now am at ~35.

Turns out the card reader can only read up to class 2 speed. I really wonder why they didn't make it be able to read class 6 speed? Could all the lag in the OS be because the card reader can't keep up?

If your bored, try it out and see if you experience any improvement.

Unless you are using Aezerie card reader the memory card should have no bearing on the speed of your OS, not at least in terms of accelerometer speed and memory. The only time memory card would come into effect is when you are accessing photos or media files from the card. So I find it surprising that there would be any difference at all. But I am always bored so I will give it a good and let you know if I notice a difference.

I agree class 2 was a BS move by VZW. I bought a class 6 a while back and wow what a difference it makes.

from what i know (based on experience) if you have your settings on the mem option to enable mass storage mode auto, it will slow down the phone, i have mine set to prompt and works better, but is better yet if you set it to no....

but when you unplug the phone and each time you go to your media section the phone has to made a scan to reenable the acces to the files on your mem card and has to determine if you are accesing those files trough the pc or trough the phone....

and belive it or not makes a difference, why? maybe RIM have a better answer...

So I tried this out rellims and did not see any noticeable difference. Of course each phone reacts differently even to subtle changes so perhaps others will have better results than I did.

tried on, off and prompt for auto-enable along with both on and off for the whole mass media section and didn't notice any difference either
