Thread: Question re helping a friend w. his Storm

I've got a friend that lives about 1500 miles from me and he recently got a Storm. Unfortunately, he's so computer illiterate he doesn't even know if his computer has a DVD drive.

My question for anyone is: if I had him ship his Storm to me, could I plug it into my computer and upgrade its OS without screwing up any of the settings on my own Storm? I'd assumed that I couldn't, but the more I think about it, it seems like if I plugged it in to my computer, my computer would see his PIN # and so long as I avoid DM, I wouldn't have any problems.

TIA for any insights.

I don't see any issues with doing that. I had both my pearl and my 8830 and I used DM for both of those.

I'm pretty sure it wont mess anything up with your storm, i upgrade my moms OS all time with her Curve on my computer and never bothers my storm.

Yes you can dothis quite easily, you could even load your own 3rd party apps if you wanted to. use loader.exe and your latest 3rd party backup file.

I upgrade the OS's on both mine and my wife's Storms using the same computer all the time. Just make sure to make a backup of your friend's phone in case something goes wrong. Shouldn't have any problems, though.

Not to beat the dead horse with the same answer, but I know 120% it wont mess it up I work with 3 people that have the storm, besides myself. I have to do all the upgrades from my computer because welll lets just say they are special when it comes to computers lol:dance:

yeah my dad is deathly afraid of messing up his phone with the upgrades so i have to do his from my laptop when i visit. to quote everyone else in this thread, "it works fine."
