Thread: New to Blackberry & Storm 9530 I have questions

I just got my BB Storm 9530 a week ago, and I'm slowly learning it. The screen keeps freezing! Help!! I don't know anything about Operating Systems. I've yet to download disk to my computer (XP). Also, is there a way to turn off the lighted screen while charging, and in ON position? Is there a digital clock instead of the one w/hands? The clock is running about 2 minutes slow, can't seem to get the correct time to stick. I'm on Verizon. I need this phone, because I get no reception on AT&T where I work, and have to use Internet Explorer for most things I do, otherwise I would of got iphone (much easier and quicker...will get eventually for my AT&T phone #). (yes I have 2 phones, if only Nokia made an iphone clone!!!) I'm trying to like this phone(PDA), but I'm not impressed so far! Please help me before I throw it across the room!

Hey CSP, welcome to the forums.

Well, out of the box, your Storm has a horrible Operating Software. It has .75 on it. You can check that out by going to your options, then About. You will see it say v4.7.0.75. The latest leak for the Storm OS is .114 and personally I would not upgrade to it, I would to .109 or the .114 hybrid that crackman has made up, which if you decide to upgrade we can easily help you out.

The digital clock, yes, click your clock icon so the clock is showing. Hit the BB menu key then go to OPTIONS. You can then change your "Clock Face" do whatever you want it. As far as it keeping the right time..Go to your Options, then click Date/Time. Whre it says Date/Time Source make sure it shows "network".

You will hate your phone if you keep that OS on it. Its a horrible OS ha.

I would recccommend downloading this leaked beta for your first time, you can get that here, unless you are familar with the procces then you can download the hybrid here, there is a readme file in the hybrid to tell you how to install.

Thanks for everything! I'll wait until I get home. Do I have to use the cord for "syncing" to do this download? Should I install the disk first before I do anything? I told you I didn't know anything!!! lol

Yes, you need the Desktop Manager that is off of that CD and you will need the USB cord as well.

You need to have the Device Manager installed on your PC, yes you will need the usb cord. What disc, if you dont mind me asking?

Thank you everyone!!! I read the directions, sounds easy enough! I'll try that tonight! My desk top has new hard drive and is current on back ups, so it should be no problem to do anything! Thanks again!! This has helped...now if the OS upgrade will stop the screen freezing, I will be a happy camper until I try to do something new on the unit. Any cool apps like the iphone has....carpenter level, flashlight, etc...? I have part time access to iphone, so I will use that when frustrated with Storm for surfing.

yes, as BlackBerryOS said, that disk has your device manager on it and needs to be installed

A friend of mine was asking the same things - the best suggestion I could give was get used to the phone, navigating and understanding the different user settings first. Then do a lot of reading on this forum and others. Once you have digested all the info, it will make the upgrade to different a OS easier for you.
