Upgrading questions
I have a Blackberry 9500 with OS v4.7 and I live in a country in south-east Asia. I want to upgrade it to 5.0 but I checked the OS from my provider site and found out that v4.7.0.252 (EastAsia) was the latest and there is no v5.0.
So is it completely safe to just download the 5.0 OS from here and load it to my Blackberry?... Won't it brick?... *Worried*
My Wii already bricked because of wrong region update already and I really don;t want the same to happen to my Blackberry
Thx

I do not think it will brick it, all you have to do is delete the vendor.xml file and you can load any OS for your device onto your phone.
PS: It's VERY VERY hard to perm brick a BB now-a-days.

oh, so it safe right?.. just to double check

Yes as long as you delete the vendor file you are a go.

You only have to delete the vendor.xml if you are loading another carriers official release. If you are loading a leak it is not necessary. Follow the steps in this tutorial and you should be all set.

follow the guidelines and you will be ok.

If you are worried about bricking your device, make sure you have a copy of the official release OS from your provider. Keep it on your computer in a safe place and go ahead with the newer OS loading. If the newer OS does not work for your device, wipe the device and reload the official OS again. I cannot stress enough that you should make a backup copy of all your information on the computer before doing any of this.
Good luck, follow the directions on the forum for upgrading OS and have fun!

If you hold onto your carriers official, make sure it is NOT installed on your computer. Only the OS you want to be loaded to your phone should be loaded on your computer.
