Thread: 2 Years, Same Storm.

That's right my storm has lasted me 2 yrs. It's amazing for me. It's the longest I've had any small electronic device. If I don't lose them, I break them. The last 6 years I've worked as a weld inspector in a fabrication shop. As soon as you walk in this place you're dirty. One of the methods we use to inspect welds is Magnetic Particle Testing(MT). You basically magnetize the part and if there's a crack it will make it's own magnetic field. You then apply iron powder(died gray or red) on the part and the crack will attract the particles; you blow away the excess powder with a "puffer" and evaluate. So basically I walk around throwing magnetic dust around all day; to go along with the grinding dust in the air that makes it a very harsh enviroment for a cell phone.
When I first got my storm(a few months after it came out) I used to wrap it up in a paper towel at work. That later evolved into just putting masking tape over the speakers. I had a few cases but most made typing a little more difficult so they didn't last(I broke my feather case after 3 drops on concrete-great case). After a year the phone would just get thrown in the pocket. Over the past winter I dropped it in about a foot of snow. After that my menu and back button acted up for a while but it's good now. It's still ticking but I have a water stain from the snow and over time lost each layer of the speaker and now the dust has invaded. I'm going to keep her until the Incredible comes out and see how long it can last.
Thanks to and all the Hybrid makers (especially BBC & Lyric) for making the last two years with the 9530 a little less painful.

hey bro, i know the incredible is the best phone to come out in a long time but i can just about guarantee it wont hold up to that kind of abuse, i to abuse my storm but it keeps on ticking. So you may as well get ready to argue with the insurance company alot. lol:1244:

That's amazing, with all that abuse it's still alive...you are the diamond in the rough. Most have been through a half a dozen or more.

I still have my original storm 2 years later as well. I actually let my wife have it after getting th 9550. It still works great too. Now my 9550 on the other hand...I'm on my 3rd right now.

Wow, I haven't heard of many people having to replace it....that's too bad. Hopefully you have better luck with it.

Mine is about two now years old (9500) and it is a great phone.

Yes its a pity about the memory problems, like not having enough, but we always want more anyway.
Mine has been dropped in body fluids, ditches, well all over the place and it still goes on.

I cant say I have used any hybrids from BBCman but i have from Lydrical and Seanren78. And i must admit I still get a little excited when a new version is released and i can meddle with my storm again...

Great phones, i dont care what anyone says (and who needs wifi on unlimited BIS?)

Makes me wish every carrier supported UMA. A few of my friends have T-Mobile and the UMA is awesome! Wi-Fi is nice, but UMA is another level.

I did against a friend in the US who did it at the same time.

His speed was something like 2000kb/s

200 wow. Even I would get 700 at least.

i'm still rocking my original storm 9530 as well, got it less than a month after launch. i've dropped it a bunch of times and the case is falling apart around it, but it's still alive and kicking. just a little dust under the screen but not bad at all, especially considering i just pocket it all the time.

i'm definitely gonna have to give some props to bbc for his hybrids. they're always great and were one of the few things that kept me interested with all the performance issues with this phone.
