Random Blank Black screen: very annoying.

Hey guys,

I installed the new leaked OS 5.0.0.419 and my phone has developed a new frustrating bug/problem.


Phone would work perfectly (and fast, thx to the new OS) then "black out".

I have a deadpixel in my screen so I can see that the screen is still "on", but I can't see anything but black blank screen. My LED indicators are still on, my other functions such as camera button work,(could even take pictures by pressing the camera button).

To get my screen back, I have to either battery pull or turn off power then turn on. This is very annoying as it interrupts my call schedules, BBM chats (screen goes completely black during a convo)



Any tips? Could this be software related or hardware? If it's a hardware issue, I'm thinking of replacing this unit under warrenty.

I'm not sure. Does this go black randomly, or when using certain apps ? Were you using a 5.0 OS prior to .419 ? ....as some apps are not compatible with 5.0, though most have an updated version by now. You can try wiping your phone and reinstalling OS, or go back to Official OS and see if that fixes it. I have not heard this issue before. Remember though...if you take it to store, to replace under warranty...have official OS on your phone.

I had a similar problem on my storm could use camera recv. Calls etc but screen went black. Called vzw talked to warranty dept. Said they had some issues got a new storm. Mind you this was before. .419 what I am using now. Hope this info helps. JW

If you want to be sure its not an app.. remove all 3rd party apps (back them up first) and try using your phone for a day or so and if you dont get it, slowely one by one add your apps back and see if one of them starts causing that, otherwise you could just try a replacement, but if its an app chances are it will do the same thing

I am trying to do elimination as you have mentioned.


This never happened to me on previous OS, BBC's V8.5 hybrid.

Only started with the V10 and 5.0... OS's. The 5.0 OS are so much better than 4.7's and I do not want to switch back!


Apps wise I run:

BerryBuzz
Weathereye
BBM5.0
facebook
dynostorm
google map
miphone theme
QUICKpull


I have not downloaded a new app I have not tried since the new OS upload, and I do not know if this problem is occuring because:

1. OS bug
2. Hardware is malfunctioning
3. Apps are having problems with the updated OS


As for hardware, my phone has not had any water damage, major drops, I always took care of it and it only has minor surface scratches on plastic (had it for a year now)

I have the exact same problem with trying to upgrade my OS to 5.0.0.419 with the blank black screen. I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to this? it would be really helpful because the problem is really annoying.

You should start by making sure that OS is the only OS installed on your computer and delete the rest, also use BBSAK to wipe the device. You may have old OS files corrupting the install.

I'm helping another user with this same issue, and I have gone through it as well. You need to erase ALL operating systems from your desktop and install the os you want on your blackberry.

Before installing the new os, use bbsak to completely wipe your bb and then install the new os. Ensure you remove the vendor file if its not from your carrier.

Somewhere you have corrupted the current os on your bb. It could have come from a dirty install (not wiping your phone completely before installing a new os) or from not deleting past versions from your desktop. Good news is this is fixable.

If all else fails, it may be the OS. I had this similar issue except it would reboot and/or reboot over and over with the hourglass.

I ended up going back to an earlier official version.

I would definitely do what Josh wrote first, he gives good advise :)
