Thanks Cruz I will try this. I am concerned though because DM does not allow me to clear them while I am on my company's BES. I should be able to find where the error is.
Thank you.

Very strange i really believe it's in the DM, did you go to Add and Remove programs and remove the Device Manager software then back to the program files>common files> rim folder and make sure the RIM device manager folder was gone before reinstalling. Mine was doing the exact same same and i never remove my memory card either
this is the only one solution i think can work for you i made my homework las night and it was the only posible way i found:
Problem : For one reason or another you need to un-install your Desktop Manager from your computer and re-install it, however, the same problems are existing.
Solution 1: download and install "REVO UNINSTALLER"
once installed open revo uninstaller and select option 4
follow the on screen instructions.
will update with screen shots if needed.
this one is the easiest way
when done you need to restart you pc/laptop
now install the DM ver of you choice
restart you pc/laptop
ready to go!!

Leave the Registry Editor open to complete the next task.

Note: If you are unable to delete the Pumatech folder, rename it (e.g., Pumatech Shared_old).
If the Pumatech software is being used by synchronization software for other personal digital assistants (PDAs), you will need to re-install the synchronization software.
Task 6 - Restart the computer
The desktop software should now be fully uninstalled. Restart the computer to make sure that all background processes are cleared from system memory.
Be aware that any of these process will un install the os from you computer and you will need to install it back....
credit for the solution 2 goes to N8DBB over pinstack forums...
Well I finally figured it out. I took out the Media Card (16GB) and reset the phone. Then did a back up without the card. Then After loading V4 I put the card back in and did a back up no problem. I am up and running with no issues. I am now using 4.7DM btw.
Thank you all for the help!
