Thread: 8900 curve vs 9500 storm?

Hey everybody,
I'm in a bit of a dilemma, I have a perfect curve 8900 at the moment but due to the lack of 3g support I am thinking of buying the storm as browsing the net is a pain!

With all the 5.0+ updates would you recommend me doing this - or stay well clear of it as I know of many "horror" stories about the storm? How long does battery life approximately last on the latest os5 for the storm?
Please could members let me know of their views?

Welcome to ! I'd recommend the 9700 over the 9500, unless you are specifically looking for a touch screen device.

I agree, the 9700 is a great phone. If you want touchscreen go with the Storm if not the 9700 is the best BB IMO on the market

I appreciate the replies, the 9700 is a bit too expensive for me, here in the uk I would be able to pick up a brand new 9500(strom) and sell my existing curve and only have to put a little bit of money towards it.

So is the storm with os 5 really that good and battery life?

It's really a matter of personal preference. I would say the battery life on the 8900 is better than the Storm but I enjoy the experience of the Storm over the 8900. I enjoy the large screen of the Storm and really not that in to physical keyboards. The new OS 5.0 is very good. Either phone is good it just depends what phone would best suit your needs.

Dunno how long the others last, but I think it is the issue with the touchscreen phones - either iphone or storm (at least s1).
Two days will everything enabled (data services and 3G) and not too much BBM or browsing is ok for me so far, but I had to go for my listed "OS" to achieve it, on 402 battery was drained much faster...so I guess RIM is aware of the need to save some power for the storm 1

if you want a slow edge connection go with the storm i had mine unlocked to tomile and i only got 2g network speed

Thank you for all the help, ive gone ahead and bought a storm should be with me on tuesday.
Main reasons I bought it was for better speeds when browsing the net, and the multimedia abilities due to the larger screen. The curve is a great phone would have been so much better with 3G!

Just one recommendation. Your operator must be works on UMTS/HDSPA 2100 Mhz band. I bought an unlocked 9530 here in Peru and I cant use with 3G network (just have EDGE), because my operator works in 1900 Mhz band. Regards and sorry for my bad english.

i think 9500 storm with 5.0.0.328/405 is good enough than 8900 with 5.0.0.411
i've have those device and 9500 storm is run better than 8900. its equal with my 9000.
