What does "j" mean in 9530jAMEA and 9530jEastAsia?
Dear all,
Having tinkered with various .exe files, I have learned that the Japanese Input option can be installed and properly invoked with
9530jAMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel230_PL4.0.0.205_A4.7.0.167_I usacell.exe
9530jEastAsia_PBr4.7.0_rel230_PL4.0.0.205_A4.7.0.1 67.exe (leaked file)
whereas it can be installed but CANNOT be invoked with
9530AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel508_PL4.2.0.128_A5.0.0.328.ex e
9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel244_PL4.0.0.181_A4.7.0.179_Sa skTel.exe
9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel203_PL4.0.0.181_A4.7.0.148_Ve rizon_Wireless.exe
9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel203_PL4.0.0.181_A4.7.0.148_Be ll_Mobility_Inc.exe
9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel172_PL4.0.0.153_A4.7.0.122_Te lus_Mobility.exe
Does anybody know what is different between, for instance, 9530jAMEA (WITH "j") and 9530AMEA (WITHOUT "j")?
For your reference, the difference between 9500_omadrmjAllLang (WITH "j")and 9500_omadrmAllLang (WITHOUT "j") is rather straightforward. The former contains .cod files related to the Japanese Input option, while the latter DOES NOT contain such .cod files.
Sincerely,

A late welcome to
!
And as soon as I find someone to translate for me I'll work on an answer...

I believe the ones with the specific "j" in the filename are capable of using Japanese characters for both creating and viewing documents; whereas the non "j" versions are simply capable of allowing one to view Japanese text; not create it. I could be wrong, however.

Thank you very much for your kind post.

I do agree.
I would very much like to ask RIM engineers why they treat the Japanese input option, reportedly developed with the help of NTT DoCoMo (the largest carrier in Japan) (DoCoMo and RIM Announce Japanese Support for BlackBerry | Press Center | NTT DOCOMO Global Software Update Procedure 2 | BlackBerry Bold | Support | NTT DOCOMO Smartphone Site), so differently from the Chinese input options (both traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese), the Korean input option, and the other Asian language input options . . . they can be installed and properly invoked with 9530AMEA_PBr5.0.0 (without "j") and 9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0 (without "j") OS files.
Sincerely,

P.S.
As for the difference between
9500_omadrmjAllLang_PBr4.7.0_rel245_PL4.0.0.212_A4 .7.0.181_Hutchison.exe
and
9500_omadrmAllLang_PBr4.7.0_rel245_PL4.0.0.212_A4. 7.0.181_StarHub_Ltd.exe
9500_omadrmjAllLang (WITH "j") contains those .cod files which are related to the Japanese input option. 9500_omadrmAllLang (WITHOUT "j") DOES NOT contain such files.
