    What is a Theme?

Can someone describe to me exactly what a theme is and why I would want one? I have been browsing at them but dont fully understand them yet.

    Merci

It basically makes your phone look like a totally different phone. Some themes add functionality that wasn't originally built into the phone. Such as Hidden Today. A hidden today theme can make it to where you can see your upcoming appointments or view unread messages right on your home screen. There can also be animations built in and hidden icons that allow you to access commonly used apps.

I would suggest downloading one and giving it a try. Make sure to view the theme installation guide to walk you through it.

    Tamara

I will add the Laney's post that her theme (which has the two icons on top of the home screen) is a theme with what they call a weather and OCD slot. For people that download a weather app and meterberry. You can download this theme and actually put any app in either of those two spots, and they will work.

I use 3rd party theme's for the additional features they add to my phone

    1. Today screen (as Nate explained)
    2. The weather and OCD slot like in Laney's post (great because it adds two more additional slots to your home screen)
    3. Many theme's have hidden buttons
For example the one I run now Crystal Clear if you push the battery it starts the browser, if you push the time it starts the calendar (and also displays my calendar appts on the home screen). If I push the signal meter it opens manage connections.
    3. And it is nice to be able to customize the phone and not be stuck with the plain jane default theme that the phone comes with.

I was looking at some on a website yesterday. Once I get a new phone I will down load one and give it a try. There appear to be some really fun themes out there.

Tamara there really are some great functional themes that also look good to boot. Take Nate's new theme for example if you click the BlackberryOS symbol on the home screen it takes your to our mobile site. It is little added features like those that make some themes a must have.

Be sure to check out the Storm theme forum here as there are a ton of themes that you can choose from.
