Thread: Need a lil help with Wifi

OK.. I have tried to not have to ask this here but I am having trouble. The wifi works fine, but at home I have a belkin g router.. I was running it WPA2 protected, WEP, and No security. WPA2 tells me that the passkey is wrong even though its the same one for my pc's and it works. WEP tells me could not find an IP address. I have tried rebooting my router and cable modem. I have tried re-configuring the router. Now if I turn off the security connects fine....

And what is WPS? wifi protection security I think. But when i hit connect from the BB it asks me if I want to use it to connect because my router supports. So I tried it and put the key in that it gave me(but no idea if I put it in the right spot) but no go. SO please someone help me

Did you try WPA-Personal? I'm using a old LynkSys and I believe I had the same issue or a similar issue. Give that a shot and see how that goes.

yup it auto selects wpa personal

No that was the WPA I tried before its the only WPA option I have...Where is Dave12308 that when you need him lol

Actually, I am not the guy to ask in this case. I've absolutely no experience with WPA security, personally. As for the wifi issues in general, i'm willing to bet the S2s wifi code is still a bit buggy. Writing proper device drivers is one thing, making the security work right is another story.

DAMN... i have tried it in wep as well... i dont want to leave it unprotected....

Truly strange. It works in Wifi both at home and in my office. I have a solid white WiFi. Don't leave your network unprotected. We'll figure it out.

Maybe the router is the issue? What are your settings on the router's security? How about the broadcast type? Or is it set to just G or N, or is it being very compatible?

its a G the router works fine on 3 other PC's and unprotected fine on the phone.

try rebooting the router?

I'd get another router. Maybe ask everyone to post which router they use so you know which will work.

Quoted for truth. Unfortunately, some routers are just incompatible with certain devices, at least with any kind of security enabled. Another thing you could do is look for a firmware update for your router; and if one is available see if it helps. Also, some routers can run third-party firmware, if you are feeling adventurous and have a compatible model.

I just reread your post, and I figured out your problem.

Seriously, i've never had much luck with Belkin networking equipment in the past. The only problem is, I personally fail at wifi, and still use an old Linksys WRT54G, so I have no idea which of the current-model routers work well.

This is a version of the WRT54G series, and is actually the top-rated wifi router on Newegg. It's also on sale. It's 802.11b/g only; but if you don't need n, it might be the way to go:

I use the LinkSys Wireless G myself. No problem.

Is the router configured to use dhcp? If not that is probably why it can't get an up address. Also I agree with the others that linksys is a better option. Make sure its set to mixed mode or the specific protocol needed for the device. Let me know if this works

Heres the thing but why would it connect to 3 other pcs fine and my xbox 360 just the phone? also this router is 75days old.. I bought it brand new... So that means I am not going to spend the money on another one right now. Its just odd to me why it works when i leave it open but then wont with a password.

i have no idea what you are talking about at all

Disconnet the power for 10 mins from the router, and delete the wifi profile from the phone, the re connect the power and hold on until the router is fully working, run the wifi setup again on the phone, and that should fix it,also check your network firewall settings pc, that could be an issue.

Thanks E I will try this.. I have no firewall settings on the pc that it is wired to. just odd that i can connect with no password

If that doesn't work go to wifi options, menu, wifi tools, run the diagnostic and that will give you a detailed description of what wrong.
