Thread: Storm2 and Google Maps

Did a google search and found the install link...dropped it onto the phone and whammo, bricked...

I uninstalled it using DM and am back up and running, but for anyone trying to run Google Maps, you may want to be careful.

If anyone knows a work-around, I'd love to hear it.

I used an upgrade on my S2 today...but am being very careful not to scratch it in advance of the Droid release next week. The speed on the S2 is incredible...that much I give them credit for.

It's probably fast because there really isn't anything on it.

Well, I figured it was either spend the day wiping/upgrading my S1 to the latest OS, which would basically be a frustrating experience (given my BES setup) or I could spend the day setting up a S2 assuming that if it doesn't knock my socks off this weekend, it'll go back when Droid hits Verizon. I just need to make sure I don't drop the S2 in the toilet and I should be ok.

I have both S2 and S1 and side by side you can see the speed difference with apps installed and with no apps installed. Without doubt is more responsive. But to me the huge difference is the keyboard, finally they got it right. IMO it's a thing of beauty.

Happy for ya, man. I'm kinda happy with the new OS...haven't made my mind up about the S2 yet. Guess I'm gonna just shit back and read all the reviews and comments about it.

I've got mine set to auto-roam onto Wi-Fi...just loaded Google Reader as home page on browser and when I start the browser, it's blazingly fast. +1 for S2...total tally thusfar is 0 (+1 browser/-1 google maps).

But no ghost key....

I have a S2 w/.320. Went to m.google.com/maps (version 3.2.0)

Downloaded installed no problem and works wonderfully. GPS acquires pretty darn quick in IMHO. Faster than my S1

I loaded the Google Maps and it runs but never gets me closer than 600 m, typically it shows me 2300 meters fron my actual location, this is... ummm... useless! I can sit in my car in my parking lot and the GPS/map shows me half a town away!

Any ideas or what I am doing wrong?

I'd check your GPS settings...sounds like you're on E911 only, which means the default location finder in Google Maps is cell towers.

Options -> Advanced Options -> GPS -> GPS Services: set to "location on"

Is there an OTA link for goggle maps? Everytime I try to download the new version, it says that it's not compatiable with the S2. How do I fix that?

appworld or go to web browser and search google maps for blackberry i dont have link handy.. but it takes you right to it

I just tried and couldn't find it on App World but maybe its there and I just missed it. You need version 3.2.0. I found an OTA link doing some searches...don't remember where I found it but it does work. I never did get it to work using my S2's browser and going into Google's mobile site...perhaps they've got a good link to 3.2.0 by now.

FYI, I did all my searches on my desktop computer, then cut/pasted the link to the .jad file and emailed it to myself...then the email had the link and I clicked through that way...not sure if that overcomes the problem w. the other OTA links found using your phone's browser but you might want to give that a shot.

From your phone go to browser.. in the google search bar type google maps blackberry.. and it will take you right to the page.. i didint think it was in appworld.

All I did was type in Google Mobile Apps in my Blackberry's Browser search bar. Google provided a link that listed all of their current Mobile Apps.
I selected Google Maps and it installed and ran perfectly on my 9550 this morning.
