I have been looking around the net and can't get a final answer to my question.
Will either the 9520 or 9550 work on AT&T's 3G network after it is unlocked?
Thanks in advance.

I assume that it would work if it were unlocked... it is quad band. They wouldn't handicap the upgrade when I can already hop on AT&T networks with my VZW-activated S1.
No it will not.
It will only get EDGE.
I don't know much of anything about AT&T and assumed it would work, because I thought AT&T used UMTS and that the S2 is equipped.
Someone enlighten us? =]

The S2 will run on AT&Ts network. Vzw registers their devices via ESN. However AT&T registers sim cards and imei. You will need to have an active Sim card with AT&T and have a blackberry imei registered on the same line. If you wanna use data other then wi-fi you need a data plan for that line. Use that Sim card in an unlocked S2 and it will work.
Right, and the UMTS (3G) aspects will work also? This is my assumption, but I've never played with unlocking bbs locked for CDMA and putting them on GSM networks...
I think it will only get EDGE. I've asked that question before and never reeally got a clear answer why. I've never seen an unlocked Blackberry get anything other than EDGE when taken to a GSM network, from a CDMA network. The first Storm has the same GSM radio that the S2 does, so I dont think anything will change in the aspect of getting a 3G signal on ATT's network.
Storm/2 uses a different radio frequency for GSM 3G data, so it will only get EDGE on AT&T.
With my storm I get horrible EDGE performance on AT&T, really awful to the point where the phone is almost unusable.
Yeah, but VZW doesn't issue a subsidy code for the device with the IMEI, because they don't use the IMEI... soooo, this is probably why no one can get 3G on their Storm. They haven't been able to find a subsidy code to unlock the IMEI???
The answer is that VZW locks its 3G network (CDMA) in the US. So the fact that the Storm has UMTS or other 3G modes is irrelevant in the US. This will only help if you are traveling outside the US and that's where the SIM card kicks in. Inside the US, an unlocked Storm will only work on EDGE when using it with a GSM carrier. SO if you are hoping the Storm 2 can be unlocked to run on a GSM's carrier 3G network it won't happen, at least not in the US
Right, so if someone were able to obtain the subsidy code, you could get your Storm to work 3G somewhere else... good luck, lol.
I think that at&t will have the Storm II soon. However this will be after the Apple Iphone makes its way over to Verizion in February or March 2010!
Thats the grape vine rumor? When Rogers finally announces the Storm, at&t will follow..... Which model, well that will be leaked most likely after this coming December??????????
If Big Red gets the iPhone, you'll see a ton of changes to the hardware. It won't even be the iPhone when Big Red is done with it... They'll have that thing branded VZW inside and out. HAHAHA.
Apples's exclusive deal with at&t ends this December?
The change has something to do with at&t spoty 3GS coverage, but wait, Apple has anther tight lip item better suited for Verizons current network upgrades, moving much faster then at&t's upgrades?
I only wish at&t would move faster with their 4g, but that wont be noticeable until around 3rd Qtr of 2010? Vz upgrades are underway right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4G is actually the same technology for both companies.

The subsidy unlock allows the device to accept a Sim from a carrier other then the one it was designed for. When you insert a Sim from AT&T in an unlocked S1 or S2 it connects to AT&Ts data network. The data plan provisions the apn for that network. that's why people have so many problems with AT&T. They have horrable 3g coverage. in cases like this most people are using a vwz device with an AT&T sim and trying to use a non AT&T tower.Quote:
