Thread: Best News Yet, Storm2 has a PROXIMITY SENSOR

Okay, this to me, was a major flaw of the original Storm. The lack of a proximity sensor was a constant problem for me. I know there are third party apps but that should not have been the solution. Well Kevin over at CB has conducted a review of a production model Storm2 and yes it has a proximity sensor. Let the rejoicing begin. :hail: RIM has answered our prayers. A proximity sensor turns the screen to an off state when near the face during a phone call and puts back in an active state when moved away form the face.

great find sir.. and that is awesome.. there are alot of people out there I think that dont even realize what this does/is used for.

and a proximity sensor on the S2 is used for???

lol.. As I understand it (mind you I could be one of the 'not' knowing) it allows you to use BBM and BBMAPS to use proximity senors to see when you are close to other people using the same programs.. Like say you were going to a meeting and your boss was there and had his sensor on as well.. and you were having trouble you could use it to locate him (with in a certain radius) to help you find your way.

ohh well damn!!! Thanks for playing.. I like my sensor better though.. I probably could have read kevins review and got that but.. oh well. Thank you for the clarification.

I agree yours is better but am a little scared by it.

So does the 9530 not have this? Since the 5.0 builds, the screen turns off when i'm on a call, but at random times it does turn on and stay on, but i thought it was buggy because it was a leaked OS.

yes the way i tested mine was I called lets say for example, customer service, after the call connected I put three of my fingers on the screen and guess what it turns OFF!! When I took my fingers off, the screen came back on....so when I saw the review of the S2 I hope they actually put a proximity sensor and not improved this, like sensitivity.
