    Impressions of 5.0.0.243 for 9550!!!

Our friend Kevin over at CB provided some more info on his personal impressions of 9550 or our long awaited ODIN.

Here are the screenies of 5.0.0.243 and a mysterious app from VZW, called CityID.

Kevin is lucky to play with one of those nice Odins while we here wait and wait... His impressions are that people with 9530, who are running 5.0.0.230 will notice improvements in Odin or 9550, but not as significant as we may think. Odin has several advantages, which include:

    *more memory
    *wifi
    *processor feels faster
*and I will add, hardware improvements

Other than those, Odin will not be a knock of shocker.

In my personal opinion, I still want it just for hardware improvements and memory. Kevin is also working on making another Odin tease video....so we'll what that will be. But now back to real world...the wait continues...

Nice find. Not sure if being serious about the city id. City id isnt a mysterious app. It is app that displays the city and state of the incoming phone number on your phone and also provide more info to help customers recognize unknown numbers. Its 1.99 a month or 34.99 for unlimited use. Just in case you werent joking. If you were sorry lol

Ha it's the first I ever heard of that app but then I again I don't really concern myself with where incoming phone calls originate from. Kind of sounds like a rip off to me, but that's just my opinion.

The phone itself well that is a whole ball of wax. If for nothing else, the hardware changes will be really nice even if the OS is only slightly better than what we have now (even though I find that hard to believe).

yea not all that great. It comes on all of the new verizon dumbphones as a trial app. Its really a waste of money because it just identifies the location of the caller by their area code and prefix so it isn't even gps based.

yea its really wasteful as its not like caller id.. if it gave you names it would be worth the 1.99 but not for just a city

I agree about the CityID; it's something they should give you for free instead of wanting to charge for it. Actually you would think that feature would be built into almost every smart phone by default. Anyhow I look forward to the next video of the Odin but honestly don't think the changes will be enough for me to upgrade anytime soon.

Nice work Olta. Myself, I would love more memory, wifi, better hardward AND easier typing. I think I will jump to the Storm II. Hopefully this OS will run on the Storm I.

I had CityID on my old HTC phone for free...it was ok...not worth a monthly payment...or any payment at that...

Great piece of information. I can't wait to hear what the feedback will be when the phone is released. I'm going to wait and see what everyone's honest opinion is before I make the plunge.

How simple/complicated would it be to make a storm 2/1 hybrid to run on the storm 1

Nice work Olta! I installed .230 on Sunday night and so far i like it. I have said this before and I will say it again, I told myself I was not going to get another touchscreen Blackberry but after seeing everything I have seen regarding the Storm 2, I think I may have to go back on my word. I am excited for more memory and more stable builds!

city app is cool but not worth paying for, my wife bought a envy touch and it came with a free trial but it expired and I didn't choose to pay for it

Unfortunately, it's not available yet...or I should say available to select few...and it is only for 9550 which is Storm 2. The informational review was provided by Kevin at CB. Appears it's a pretty fresh build.
