He said no touchscreen will have the same OS as other devices. A good example is the Storm has 4.7 and the 9630 had 4.7.1. Why not use the same os? So he thinks that it'll be pushed up to a 5.1.
I agree RIM has admitted that 4.7 was not a touch screen based OS. Whether or not 5.0 is or not I have no idea. So going to 5.1 would make sense if 5.0 is not a touchscreen based OS either.

I don't know, I for one LIKE the Sure-Press or Sure-Touch, whatever they call it on the original Storm. Having fairly large hands, I have trouble typing things on most touch screen phones....iPhone, Fuze (need the slide out kb), Incite, my wife's Voyager (need to open it for the kb) and just about every other one I've tried. With the storm, I can look for the 'halo' and know what letter plans on coming up when I 'click'. (Which I can now do VERY quickly and possibly as fast or faster than on my old Curve 8310).

Just seems like a step backwards IMHO....I like my Storm enough so that I might even jump to Verizon for 3G on it. (Wife is already Verizon).

Ahh! Someone who agrees with me. But the thing that confuses me is that there's 5.0 builds being tested and what not for the original Storm, so why just change it for the new Storm? Why wouldn't they have a 5.1 out there for the original Storm now?

5.0 for S2 thats what my source said, but all your statements make sense for me, making some comparisons maybe can clarify this
    example
    the curve line have 4.5.0.xxx
    The bold oficially have 4.6.0.xxx
the new curve 8900 runs on 4.6.1.xxx

Now the new 5.0 builds for bold and 8900 are storm like OS's, with the addition of trackball support, so to me make sense that the S1 could get 5.0.0.xxx build and S2 could have a 5.0.1.xxx OS

hopefully i'm making sense on my post..

That is anyone's guess. I sure hope that when Storm 2 is released the OS is based on touchscreen based phone not keyboard based.
