Thread: Is Storm 2 9520 dying?

It is very unfortunate RIM is completely ignoring storm2 9520 users. No OS update since more than one and half months while during this period all models have got os released. Storm2 users are struggling on .713/.741.

More importantly, while launching OS6 for 9800, it was announced that OS6 would not be compatible with storm2 because of type of "touch screen" used in 9800. it is capacitve based touch screen, non clickable and very similar to iphone & htc phones.

I recall when storm2 was to be launched last year in Oct, 2009, there were lot of speculations about screen and it was argued that RIM wanted to keep its touch screen as "exclusive", and would like to provide hard key experience to users on touch screen. Where has gone "exclusivity" of touch in 9800?

In nutshell, Storm2 will not get OS6 update, not becasue of memory issue rather "compatibility" issues. Do we assume, storm2 is dying now by its own?

I agree.. no news for our 9520 devices ! what a pity...

But, do you know the difference between the .713 and .741 ?
The .713 is installed on my 9520 and I would like to upgrade to correct a GPS bug (does not work with telmap and google maps).

I have installed the BlackBerry Storm2 9520 Official OS 5.0.0.741 From M1 @ Phone - Talking about Gadget and Computer Freak on my PC, but the installation to my 9520 device doesn't work it said that the software is not compatible with my device.

just wish I was on ATT now to get that torch instead of my S2. But I will be getting a Torch to demo with my company but i'm stuck with my S2 for now

I will wait for the storm2 refresh due to be released at the end of the year. But I do agree with a lot of the above.

i also tried .741 on 9520 but didn't see any improvement over .713 rather .713 is very smooth and there is no call drops while I experienced some call drops in .741.

As a S2 9550 user I'm with you guys which really is a trip because the Storm is a good device to me so why kick us to the curb the way they are. I know the refresh project is just around the corner, but it has to be a way to get the OS6 running with the S2

At lease drizzle on us if not a full leak. All the other devices are at 5.0.8xx
