Wifi or EVDO? How to decide?

    Hi!!

You must be using BB with WiFI capability.

If yes, pl tell me - once I enable data plan, when I am in WiFi zone, How do I ensure that wifi is used for data & not my EVDO connection?
If I switch off data, then wifi also doesn;t work.
If Data is ON, I am not sure if wifi is being used or expensive data ???
    Pl advice
    Thanks

It should be in your WiFi settings. Go to connections and make sure your WiFi box is checked off. As long as WiFi is enabled then as soon as your phone recognizes a recently visited LAN it will auto connect. If you are near a LAN that you have never connected to before, you will need to manually connect it for the first time.

1.) Your should be able to switch "mobile network" off independently of the "wifi". Go to "manage connections'> Should be a check box for each. If it is checked then it is on.

2.) Wifi should always take priority over EVDO. In you web browser, In the top right hand corner you should see the wifi symbol or the 3g symbol and signal bar. That will tell you what your using. (ex. If the wifi symbol is showing then your using wifi.)If your connected to a wifi, the name of the hot spot your connected to will appear at the top of the home screen above the time (on the factory theme)

3.) If your not connecting to the wifi spots automatically then try to scan for them. (goto "Set Up Wifi">follow screen prompts) As long as you have good signal strength and the passkey (passkey required for secured networks) then you should be able to connect with no problems.

Note: Some wifi spot that don't require passkey may require a web login. Once your connected to the Hot spot then open you web browser. It should redirect you to the login screen to use the hot spot.

Feel free to PM me or send me a pin message if you have any questions.

    Thanks.
I can;t swich off Mobi NW as then I will miss I/C calls.
If I just switch-off Data, then wifi also stops working.
So how do I ensure that I only use WiFi when at home wifi or in a wifi zone.

if you have wifi on, doesnt matter if you have mobile network on, the phone will default to wifi if present for browser, there are some applications that use wifi (when present) over BIS, should be no problems keeping network on while using wifi

As far as I know. I only use wifi when it is connected. I have it at home too. I think when you connected to wifi it will only use wifi.
