Does the Q10 Look Too Much Like The 9900?
I was debating this topic with a buddy of mine. He thinks they should've changed the look of the Q10 a little bit more to differentiate it even more from the Bold 9900, and move themselves even further away from the old BB OS.
I personally think it's a case of if it's not broken, don't fix it. The problem with the 9900 wasn't the outside hardware, it was that the old OS wasn't up to par to handle that beautiful device.
However, I am curious to know what you guys think about this? Are the two a little too alike? And is that going to benefit sales or deter ppl from buying the Q10?
I think it looks fine. There has to be at least on BlackBerry model that maintains a traditional look and feel.
I like the look of the Q10 better. I like the screen size and the keyboard layout. Plus, it doesn't look as wide as the Bold in pics anyway.
Q10 def is a step up in refining that Bold-esque design.
Does Lamborghini drastically change the design of all their models?
No. They make small changes.
That's exactly what the Q10 is doing to the 9900. Taking the #2 BlackBerry phone ever built (soon to be #3) and making it bigger, more powerful, sleeker is what exactly was needed.
People don't hate the Bold name. People hate the Torch and Storm families.
I agree with your buddy. When the images of this thing first landed it's what I was thinking right off the bat. It's actually a deterrent to me as well, that and the fact that the Z10 has an awesome keyboard, so I don't need the Q10. I fully intend to showcase my device, and when I do I want people to be able to see at a glance that's it's the NEW BlackBerry...not the same ol same ol.
Granted, the Q10 doesn't have the metallic bezel around it, so this sort of sets it apart from the 9900/30.
I realize there's not much they could have done with it, once you slap a keyboard or on it. Either that or they received enough feedback that told them this is what people wanted.
For me anyway, it's too similar. I won't be be buying it. But at the same time, I haven't heard many...if any people express the same thing I just did. So I doubt it will hurt sales. People just want the new OS with a keyboard and the Q10 provides this.
It's a beautiful design that perfectly blends the awesome BB10 OS with the classic efficiently of the qwerty keyboard that made BlackBerry famous. For the power communicator, it just doesn't get any better than this. And with the physical keyboard, there are added features that the Z10 will never have. AND they have packed a large capacity battery in there to add another level of incredible long life. I personally can't wait to have it in my hands!
BB then, now, forever!
I would say they did drastically change the Q10, they made the keys "Straight" instead of curved like every other blackberry w/ a keyboard. I think that is a big deal. I agree with you to, how else could you do a physical keyboard. It clearly isn't broken.
