I've personally compared and used my 9900 with a Q10 side by side at the toronto launch event. It took sometime to get use to, I was looking for the back but and also the menu button many times. Lol. The Q10 looks almost the same. I don't love the new look but its true. Once you slap a keyboard on there its gonna look similar. So its what I expected. Also looking like the 9900 is a good thing because I loved my 9900. The only problem was the out dated OS. The new Q10 will for sure do well because physical keyboard lovers will find it amazing. I currently love my Z10 but will be switching over to a Q10 upon release.

I agree with your assessment completely. The Bold is a great tool for high-efficiency communication. Why NOT make your design remind people of that? Coming at your friend's argument from the other angle, why not worry that the Z10 is indistinguishable from all the other rectangles with rounded corners on the market?
