Thread: I Got A Solution or Let Me Say The Problem To The Playbook Not Appearing On...

Most people like me bought the playbook and some of us couldn't have it connected to the pc, the issue being that the playbook doesn't appear on the "my computer or Computer" window when connected and also doesn't connect to the Desktop software to sync files.

Well this has been stressful to most of us and took us several days and nights trying to get it to work, and we went through many advices from forums to forums but nothing worked.

I believe that the playbook comes with the device manager to install it upon first connection to a PC and on the pc you must have Desktop software installed and if you have both of these softwares installed and still your playbook doesn't show up well this means that the problem is with your PC not the playbook itself.

What I have discovered is that the playbook when connect to a PC does not connects as a Mass storage disk drive but connects as a NETWORK drive, now this simple means if you have no network adapters installed in your PC the playbook will not appear or connect on your PC, basically you need to have all the network adapters and network cards installed and your PC must support those drivers.

I connected my playbook on my PC it never showed and discovered this issue, tried installing the drivers didn't work, I then connected it at work and it worked perfectly, this proves that its not the playbook that has a problem but its your PC's network drivers, still my playbook doesn't show on my because I can't seem to get the correct drivers not because my Playbook is dead or something, the network drivers differ also just hope to ose the correct ones, it connects perfectly with " broadcom netxtreme 57xx network adapters"

Please people if any1 has a better explanation please help too...

Now my biggest concern is why the playbook is made to connect as a network drive because this is killing us, now it wants us to have network drivers that we do not have? If someone knows how to connect or change the connection to a mass storage like a usb please help us.....

This info isn't quite correct, the Playbook can connect as a usb mass storage device just like an external usb harddrive. hooking up to a computer that does not have a network adapter or drivers doesn't affect whether or not a Playbook can connect.


Connect the BlackBerry PlayBook to the computer via USB cable.
If BlackBerry Device Manager is not yet installed, the BlackBerry PlayBook will display a screen entitled Installing Drivers.
On the computer, double click the BlackBerry PlayBook CD drive icon.
Open the Drivers folder.
Double click Setup.exe.
After selecting the appropriate region and accepting the License Agreement select Install.
Select Finish and then OK to the prompt confirming that the PlayBook will need to be disconnected and then reconnected prior to use.
Once reconnected to the computer, the BlackBerry PlayBook will be mounted as a Network Drive labelled PlayBook [PIN: ########].
Double click the network drive icon to access the PlayBook folders.





If these steps are followed, you should have no problems with your Playbook. If you do have issues, they won't be caused by network devices or drivers.

Thanks for updating my opinion, but then again, for the playbook to appear as a network drive u need to have the updaters installed, usually or mostly the drivers come with the windows OS.
What you saying about connecting it via usb and all that, I have tried many ways and it failed even that one, ill try it now again and come back and tell you how it went, the playbook shouldn't be appearing under network drives if it doesn't connect as a network drive, and all network drives I believe they work in conjuction with the network adapters, please SUGGEST another way to connect please because that one doesn't work at all

It might be a good idea to uninstall all RIM software before reconnecting the Playbook if you are having issues connecting.

The Playbook must be connected as a usb mass storage drive before mapping as a network drive. If you tried to map it, undo all the settings for mapping, uninstall all RIM software (including the App World browser plugin), reboot your pc, plug in the Playbook and follow the steps I posted above.

The PlayBook will auto map its self as a drive once the correct drivers are installed. This is supposed to be done automatically, but as you can see it does not always do that. There are numerous reasons why that is. For starters check out RIM's KB article regarding this type of issue:

Still doesn't connect

Do you hear or see anything from windows that indicates that it has connected? Also do you already have the latest desktop software installed?

I have Desktop software 7.1 it does show dat its connected and also on the desktop software it shows but does not mount the volumes

Ive been in contact with my insiders at RIM tech support, there is an open ticket for this problem, but without a complete clean reinstall of your pc' os there is no solution yet. you will have to use the wifi work around.
