Need Help about stolen PB.

Hello everyone,

I got a Playbook as an early birthday present. I have used it for less then a week and it got stolen while I was on street festival with my daughter.

What I did for now is made a few poster saying that I "lost" it and if anyone has any info or found it and what to return it they should give me a call or drop it at the office in my condo. The Playbook was password protected, so here are the questions I have.

Can the Playbook be reformatted if you don't have the password? I figured if the person who stolen it can't use it and sees one of the posters they might return it.

Also what I have read on other forums from people who had their Playbook stolen is that they called their PIN from another device and were lucky enough for the guy to answer the incoming call (they used video call program). So I was wondering if anyone on this forum wants to help me out in this situation. If the PB can be reformatted and the thief is using it, maybe few people from here can try to call him, if the person answers, make a screen shot of their face, tell them that you are a friend of the owner of the PB they are using and give them my phone number to call immediately or their photo will be reported to police.

If anyone knows the answers or has any other suggestions please respond to this thread.

I would be more than happy to help. Not sure it's possible due to having it password protected (got to have it unlocked to use it), but I'll call it. Message me the email used or the pin and I'll call and let you know what I find out.

Yeah you can try that, but most likely the person will initiate the built in security wipe after entering the incorrect password 10 times.

True. BUT, hopefully somebody will activate it again with a new BBid and then will answer. :)

I found a same answer, that after 10 wrong password inputs you get an option for a factory reset.

Report this to RIM, because the PIN is vital to connecting to the NOC. If the PIN of the PlayBook is blacklisted and they initiate a security wipe, the PlayBook won't be able to download the software the OS. If the OS cannot be downloaded they are basically left with a brick. I believe you can do this via the standard customer service. Here is the information for RIM support.

I send an email to RIM on Monday, just letting them know that my PB was stolen and if they get any information to send it to police. Get got back to me saying that they don't get any contact information and the only thing that they can do is brick the PB for me and hope that police will pick it up somewhere. So I send them email yesterday confirming that they can lock my PIN, it will be done today I think.

Glad to hear you contacted RIM, I had mine stolen in April and the insurance on my credit card that covered purchases for the first 3 months paid to replace it. Check to see if it was purchased with a credit card that carries purchase insurance. All they require is a police report number and information about the loss. RIM will block it and if you are lucky enough to get it back, then will un brick it for you. I didn't get mine back,but,it was replaced by insurance and someone now owns a brick.
