Want a free PlayBook? Interested in stuff? Then register for the ideacity conference in Toronto June 13, 14 and 15 at the Koerner Hall. It is listed as 'ideacity presented by BlackBerry'. They are offering a free BlackBerry Playbook to everyone who registers and attends the event.
What is ideacity?
ideacity is the brainchild of Moses Znaimer, who is somewhat of a Toronto media guru. He is the former head of CityTV and MuchMusic, and now runs ZoomerMedia. ideacity is essentially an 'Open Conference', gathering people from all walks of life to speak in a forum not centered around any one agenda. Their quote:
"ideacity, also known as ‘Canada’s Premier Meeting of the Minds’, is an eclectic gathering of artists, adventurers, authors, cosmologists, doctors, designers, entertainers, filmmakers, inventors, magicians, musicians, scientists and technologists. Fifty of the planet’s brightest minds converge in Toronto each June to speak to a highly engaged audience. Only 600 are privileged to attend."
This is a pretty left-wing event, but filled with a pretty wealthy and influential clientele. Tickets are $3500 for a 3 day pass. RIM has sponsored this event for a few years, although I don't believe they have given away devices before.
While certainly not a tech centered event, it doesn't hurt to give out BlackBerry PlayBooks to people, especially people with a degree of influence. What are your thoughts? Does this do anything to help or hurt RIM's image?
