Thread: Android Market?

I must have completely misunderstood. In the run-up to the release of OS 2 I was certain that the new system was said to have Android Market set up for us to use. Now I have OS 2 I see it's not there. Are we still to jump through hoops rooting etc. to get to this emporium?

Android Market is not installed by default, however android integration is enabled. Which means Android apps will run just fine on OS 2.0. At this time there is no Android market for OS 2.0, if you really want the Android Market you will have to downgrade your system and jailbreak your device.

But I still don't understand (sorry, it's probably my age). Android apps will now run on Playbook OS 2 but there is no way to get them? So what was the point of the exercise? Words of one syllable in your reply please 'cos I'm confused.

Its talking about being able to run Android applications on the PlayBook. You can do that now as long as the application has been ported to the PlayBook. The Android Market Place is whole other thing, and may come in time. Android apps will be made available through App World. RIM is trying to stop the side loading of apps.

Your welcome. That is actually the tricky part, as of now I do not believe their is a clear way to tell other than knowing an app is purely an Android application. Over the next few weeks I can assure you that there will be new apps that may not necessarily be in App World, but can be installed another way. I have not tried to side load an app yet on OS 2.0 so I cant speak for sure on that.

I don't see it either.

We wait and wait for update for the android and not one game I play on my android phone is one my bb playbook. Sooooooo disappointing.

More Android apps will be available through app world as they get ported. Are there particular apps or games you are looking for?

Hello!!! Yes there are many I am looking for. Words with friends, wordsmith, prize claw, coin pirates, super scratches, luckybingo are just a few. These games are free also.

Words with friends runs great! I will be posting a list of Games that work so stay tuned.

Words is cool and so are the other app games I mentioned however I can't find anything. The apps that are android games on my bb playbook are lame.. It's frustrating because I bought my playbook last year and it's been sitting collecting dust waiting for Android update and looks like I am waiting again.

This OS2.0 update was just recently released, and it will take time to port these games you mention above, I have seen them for the Android platform, it is just a matter of time before it is available for the PlayBook.

My wife is just back from Holland where all her friends are playing Word Feud. She is very unhappy it isn't available for the Playbook yet. Hope they port that one soon or I will never hear the last of it!

Wherever I see the game mentioned on the social networks I ask the question when will the game be available for Playbook in the hope it will generate a positive response.

Anytime my friend, I have been seeing more and more Android based games make it to the BlackBerry PlayBook.
It's just a matter of time before we'll see it soon.
