Any news on the release of OS 2.0? I seem to remember the 17th being touted as the date (UK at least).

its very worrying how RIM is not willing to give us a date even at this stage, it could be a sign of 'no commitment'', or the fact that they are actually not ready with os 2 and feel giving an exact date may be bad shud they fail to keep the date...
I do not think its a sign of "no commitment", but rather them taking their time to deliver a solid finished product. They can afford to mess this one up. I would much rather them take their time and deliver a great OS than rush something out the door because consumers want it quicker.
No no, the OS is ready... They've shown it off fully functional and are ripping through betas internally... We wrote at the end of January that OS 2.0 would be released on the 21st and it seems that that date might still be sticking around. The problem is if they say the 17th and it's the 18th, people will kill RIM for being "late" so just don't say anything and release it when its ready.

oh yeah ,PlayBook can taste good app ,and have Email ,Greatful ,i hope RIM can give more attention fucus on the Only-One Pad ,So far !!
It's not only the OS that needs to be ready. There are many of us outside of RIM who are positive it is, but there are still things that can go wrong. Working in IT myself, I am fully cognizant of the s*** that can happen no matter how many times you have tested or simulated deployment. We have had this occur many times ourselves. Successfully testing a deployment numerous times in a lab or dev environment is no guarantee it will work in production no matter how closely you have simulated your production environment. This is why I always shake my head in disbelief when someone encounters a bug in newly released software and feels the need to add the comment "typical (insert company), didn't they test this thing before release...". Of course they did, but unless one of the testers duplicated the conditions exactly, then the devs won't know anything about it. You can't test every possible combination of factors and conditions.
In addition to the OS they are updating PB App World and Bridge for the phones. This adds additional variables and increased load on both the Update servers and App World servers. App World will become busy not only with the Bridge updates, but the newly updated Playbooks as well due to people suddenly discovering hundreds to thousands of apps now available to them. There are also quite a few more Playbooks out there since the last OS update in December, so I'm sure their IT department has been busy adding new servers and performing load tests. I don't for one moment expect any kind of major disaster, but I do expect the odd hiccup. It just goes with the territory, S*** happens, and sometimes you have no control of it.
Here's hoping for the best.
Good points, rjedge54. What type of IT did you work in?

Hi Joe,
I work at a small university as the Manager of IT Core Systems. I oversee a team of 3 and am also the Exchange Administrator. We are responsible for server deployment and keeping all core systems running. This is email, web, database, backup, and network services. We are mostly a Windows shop with 95% of our 90 production servers running on VMWare's VSphere 4.x.
