    PlayBook as an eBook Reader

I'm basically a book worm and have been for the better half of my life. I was actually given an iPad around the beginning of this year by my parents to allow me the opportunity to continue my love affair of eBooks as well as the ability to use the Internet, among other things. I had previously been the proud owner of Kindle which met all my basic needs: long battery life and allowed me to download .pdf and other files onto it for reading at my own leisure. Eventually I got fed up with the lack of decent browser and having to convert many of my ebook files because of their incompatibility with the Kindle. That's where the iPad came in. If it lasted longer, didn't weigh as much, and didn't have lots of bugs I may still be inclined to keep it. However, that isn't so much the case, which brings me to getting my very own PlayBook. Now my questions (which I hope are obvious at this point):

    • How is the PlayBook as an eBook Reader?
    • What are tolerable apps to view such eBooks that I don't have to *buy* the eBooks directly from that company/website and can simply upload my own to read?
    • What type of files are compatible with the PlayBook?

Yes I could Google all this, and believe me I have tried, but something about Google search and myself just don't mix well and I end up on some other random site that has nothing to do with what I had originally searched for, leaving me with no answers and hours gone. If you have any information regarding the information above, please comment away! You'll be helping myself and many more to follow.

The app that transforms the PlayBook into an eBook reader is Kobo you can take a look at it here:

    Kobo eBooks

Its pretty much the best app for the PlayBook otherwise standard web based reading is more than suffice. I suggest you take it for a test drive on your phone so you can get an idea of what it is like.

There is the Book reader for epub and kindle. It does a good job with books that are not DRM protected, like from the gutenburg project.

You can also use the Amazon Cloud reader - I have better luck with the simple browser than the native browser.

I useBook Reader for EPUB and Kindle books which has been the best e-book reader as it reads many formats, such as, EPUB, MOBI, AZW, PDB, PRC, FB2, FB.ZIP,TXT or CHM extension, and latest version is 1.3.1 as of January 26, 2012.

Check it out, I'm sure anyone who reads e-books from their BlackBerry PlayBook will be equally impressed.

If you're into side-loading then there is a version of the official Amazon Kindle app for Android that works on the playbook.

    Hello wbeckle,

Our very own Blogger,ice2921, has recently published an article yesterday regarding side loading (Android) apps to the BlackBerry PlayBook, and the Amazon Kindle app is mentioned.

I use the Kobo app and have purchased many books from Kobo as a) Kobo offer many discount codes (google and you will find a few codes) and b) their prices are generally as good as, and sometimes better than Amazon (for my sci-fi/fantasy books anyway).
