Thread: PlayBook OS 2.0 Upgrade "Free" for Business Users?

RIM has been sending out emails to its business customers with the above offer. If you buy two BlackBerry PlayBooks you will get one for free and a free upgrade to the PlayBook OS 2.0? Wait, is RIM telling us OS 2.0 wont be free for everyone? While I highly doubt that's the case, it is curious that RIM is using this tactic to get people to purchase PlayBooks.

One thing to think about is the fact that publicly acknowledged that OS 2.0 for the PlayBook wouldn't be out till next year has allowed to use that in advertisement instead. They've taken what was largely perceived as a negative by the public and spun it around to bring people to their product.

I think you're over-thinking what RIM is saying and trying to spin up a story where there is no story at all. If, and that's a very big if, RIM were going to be charging for the upgrade to OS 2, the ad would say "at no extra cost".

In this picture RIM is offering anyone that purchases two PlayBooks: a free PlayBook (which obviously costs money), a free Premium accessory (which also costs money) and in the same exact format mentions a free upgrade to OS 2.0. You're gonna tell me that's not misleading? While I do agree with you that OS 2.0 will not need to be bought (No BlackBerry upgrade ever has), the focus of my article was geared towards the way RIM is presenting it to its consumers and how they've taken a negative and turned it into a positive instead.

The pitch made by RIM is just plain misleading.

The information on the upgrade in this ad has it's own subject. The subject is that in addition to all the other premium perks that the upgrade will also be free. Which is misleading because we all know that OS upgrades are always free. Unless, RIM has plans on charging for the upgrade. :boggled:
