BlackBerry PlayBook Running Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and PlayBook Tablet OS [Video]

The fact that the PlayBook OS 2.0 wasn't officially released to the public during DevCon disappointed a lot of people. Although we did get a 2.0 beta release, the PlayBook owners know how great of a tablet this is and how much potential it possesses; we wanted to see it put into action. Little by little though, we're seeing some developers do amazing things with this beta OS. The latest novelty to pop up in the forums is seeing a PlayBook running 3 different environments in the Android player of OS 2.0. The guys over at @BB_IN were able to take the above video to show it off for us.

I have heard from certain people that aren't really loving this idea too much. Their argument? If I wanted a tablet that ran Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich, I would've bought an Android tablet. While this may be a great argument for some, I can't help but disagree. Many people that have Macs are able to simultaneously run Windows on their computers and switch back and forth between the two OSes as they please. I simply like the fact that the BlackBerry PlayBook can do this. The potential for this tablet is still being explored. People are finding new things it can do constantly and as a BlackBerry fan, I'm all for it.

    • Do you agree or disagree?

To be honest there really is no advantage to to switching between Operating systems on the PlayBook. Its really more of just a cool thing to do. Most mac user use programs like Parallels Desktop to switch between mac and windows for compatibility reasons. For instance a user may want to use a program that will only run on windows to they have no choice but to switch between windows and mac. Honeycomb on the PlayBook is cool, but not practical. Another reason its not really an advantage is that even if you do run another OS you are still restricted by the limitations of the Android player. This really is a developers dream come true, but to a normal consumer its just cool.

actually the same reason a mac user would use Parallels is the same reason a playbook user would use Android Player; they are just some apps that will not run on the playbook so they have no choice.
