Blackberry Playbook OS 2 First Impressions:
Hello all! As you all have been anxiously waiting the OS2 update for Blackberry Playbook was officially released for developers’ preview. I have been really impressed thus far. It does flows much much smoother than previous OS.
For starters this is the screen we have all been used to...
This is what the new screen will look like...
We now have a dock where we can actually pin our favorite apps (upto a max of 6), hopefully Rim would change that rather than making it a replica of ipad (ipad has a dock on the bottom, playbook has it on top). As you can see bridge has a new icon, which I like. Hopefully we can make new folders in playbook like we can in our phones. It is definitely a nice start since that could potentially allow us to have six customizable folders on the dock, rather than just apps. Now as some of you have noticed that nothing else in the bridge folder works except the browser. This is pretty much the same bug that RIM had when playbook came out originally with the icons not being directed in the right spots in the background coding, giving us errors.
Yet there is a workaround. If you open the bridge browser and type: http://127.0.0.1:187/, this is what we get:
This allows us to get to a stripped down versions of the various apps, like messages, bbm etc.
Installing android apps isn’t that much easier unless you convert the files and turn on the developer mode.
The graphics are amazing and much smoother. Here is what this new upgrade gives us:
Overall, this is a very impressive OS which has great potential. Please share comments, tips and tricks that you might find.
