David Neale Demos The New Playbook
Today, David Neale, Vice President of Special Projects at RIM, took a moment to demo the PlayBook and show it off at The Rogers TabLife Conference.
Some of you that are familiar with the PlayBook, know it as “The World’s First Professional Tablet”, complete with a 7-inch - 1024 x 600 capacitive multi-touch LCD display, 1GHz Dual Core Symmetrical Multiprocessor with 1GB RAM and priced under $500.
The PlayBook will be capable of 1080p HD video and comes equipped with an HDMI port as well as a microUSB jack, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1. The device clocks in at a reasonable size of 5.1 by 7.6-inches, is only 0.4-inches thick, weighing about 0.9 pounds. A more realistic size for the professional or anyone else on the go.
According to a recent Reuters statement, RIM has hinted at, but not confirmed, a 3G version of the PlayBook, unveiled in September, is due for release in the first quarter of 2011.
Describing tablets as "the dashboards for the highways of tomorrow", in the Rueters statement, Rogers Chief Marketing Officer John Boynton said they would likely offer a slew of new devices throughout 2011.
"We expect to launch at least a few tablets every quarter all through 2011," he said, adding that customers would soon be able to record Rogers content from tablets and share their data plan among multiple devices.
We will update you as more details emerge and the release date draws near.
