Tablet Wars: Playbook Vs IPad
Well you knew it was only a matter of time before fan boys from each base began contesting for bragging rights as to which tablet carried the biggest punch. Although it will be premature to compare the Playbook to the IPad seeing that it wouldn’t be available until next year, going through the spec sheets one can give an educated guess on its performance.
This comparison isn’t aimed at which tablet will sell more units but more on which would appeal more to its targeted user. I say “targeted” because i feel both RIM and Apple had business users in mind rather than the average gadget loving geek when making these tablets, nevertheless this comparison sheds more light into the capabilities of both.
From the table above, the two significant advantages the Playbook has over the IPad are; adobe flash compatibility- this is a big plus as a lot of websites use this technology- and the fact that the Playbook is smaller in size- 7 inch as opposed to Ipad’s 9.7 inch- hence it will be less awkward carrying around. Not much can be said about the battery life or price of the Playbook since it is yet to be released but these two factors will nonetheless play an important role in the battle of the tablets
Being biased to Blackberry i must confess that I’m secretly hoping the playbook does as well as the IPad or maybe even better but even the most biased Blackberry fan, if honest, will expect a lot better from RIM. While watching the DevCon presentation a funny thought crept into my mind; what if, instead of an IPad, I was holding a Playbook and it was Steve Jobs giving a presentation about Apple's new tablet..... Food for thought.
