BlackBerry To Announce TouchPad At Devcon 2010?
Less than a week away is BlackBerry's Developer Conference in San Francisco
(Devcon 2010). The Wall Street Journal has provided information through
sources which claim that the new BlackBerry tablet is slated to be unveiled
at this time. A concrete name has not been provided by RIM but two recent
ones keep popping up - BlackPad and SurfBook. Although it may be brought out
for all to see, it is believed to be released to the public sometime in Q4 of
this year *cough* Christmas*cough*.
The earlier purchase of QNX Software Systems this year seems to be the new
platform residing on the tablet and not OS6. This is a move which insiders
claim will be rolled-out for upcoming RIM Smartphones. This will be a homerun
for RIM, considering how blasted they have been getting for their
slow and unstable Operating Systems.
People claim that the tablet will be Bluetooth and Broadband ready, but will
need a BlackBerry Smartphone to connect to cellular networks. It hasn't been
made available which carriers or retailers will be providing the tablet at
this time and we should find out more at Devcon 2010.
One added feature RIM seems to be working on for this release is a music app
in conjunction with Amazon.com, which would help to compete with the iTunes
app on the iPad. This is something that BlackBerry's have been lacking is a
truly dedicated music app that works well.
RIM may finally be stepping up to the plate with their software and device
aggressiveness. Hitting the consumers with products relative to the market
that is available now and not last year. Changing the OS could be the light
at the end of the tunnel so many BlackBerry enthusiasts were clamoring for. I
had no intention of getting the iPad, but once RIM releases this device, I
may need to dip into the cookie jar.
