So it looks like all the hype about the 2.1 OS where true as I woke up this morning to see that the OS Download is now available its 339MB



Gunna download it and see what's new

Here is the official press email from RIM for the update...

Today RIM released BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1. This update, which is available for the Wi-Fi-only BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, offers a range of new capabilities and security features for consumers, enterprises and developers.

With PlayBook OS 2.1, customers will now have the ability to:
• Secure all data on the tablet; the enterprise-grade encryption can now be extended to secure personal data stored on the device
• Text via SMS using the new version of BlackBerry Bridge (version 2.1) customers can send a text from their PlayBook through their BlackBerry smartphone; the new version of Bridge is available on BlackBerry App World
• Use the Messages, Contacts and Calendar apps in Portrait mode;
• “Print” documents from a PC to a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet using the Print To Go app even if the PC and tablet are connected to different networks;

Additionally, PlayBook OS 2.1 offers new features that simplify the deployment of the tablets in the enterprise with BlackBerry Mobile Fusion. These include over-the-air enrollment to the BlackBerry Mobile Fusion server, support for ActiveSync certificate-based authentication, and additional IT Policy controls.

For developers (and consumers), the In–App Payment system now extends to Android applications.

The update is now available as a free over-the-air download. Customers will automatically get a notification of the update on their PlayBook, or they can tap the gear icon (in top right corner) and check for the new version under “Software Updates”.

In the UK and the update is only 329MB. Looks like once again the UK is getting screwed over with the update contents

Hmm interesting I wonder what the 10MB difference is??

Mine is currently at 120 out of 339 mb downloaded (downloading it OTA)

i always change my location to US before downloading an update and seem to get the 339mb this time. i never know what we miss out on though. I had to downgrade from BB10 to get it which was a pain

1 Minor change I noticed was the sounds for new email is different I like the new sound better tho TBH

339mb dowloaded here in Spain.

one thing missing is the native podcast app. not a major issue but would be nice to have since there seems to be no decent native podcast apps

Just got the update bout an hour ago here in Houston tx...woohooooo. here we go lqunching it now!

Ummm my app world is still the same ...

I wonder if the 10 mb is the lack of video store that we dont have here in the UK? Regarding the podcast app, I,ve been using the sideloaded "beyondpod" and its awesome!

Yeah its supposed to be intergrated in the new app world... Its not on mine...itsnstill a seprate app...im gonna try and reboot again...then illnresprt to sideloading. Uughhh :^

Let me guess....... Since i have a 16gig....im not gonna get the same update...man im bout to be pissed. Ima fiddle with some settings .....rim..dont fail me now...

I was a little disappointed with this update tbh, it was delayed so much I was hoping for something big I.e native bbm or navigator or something along those lines but alas nothing let's hope bb10 is soon

I believe the new App World will be launched on 10/10 and it may only be on BlackBerry 10 devices. Not entirely sure though.

i doubt that there is a difference between the 16 and 32 and 64gb models like i have a 32GB model and i got the 339 mb update i don't see the 64GB model getting "more" in a update then i would

what is the new App world?

Well I got the 326mb update. I even did a clean install incase any of my side loading and development mode may have messed anything up......still..nada.... I still have podcast and video store while other people don't have it anymore...

*sigh*. Waiting sux... I thought the new app world was.supposed to be in the update. And when u say bb10... Ur talking about the development devices right...cuz I knownthe phone has not yet launched...when it does..I'm first in line!!
