Thread: Can i reload an OS?

Alrighty people, here's my problem... well not really a problem, but an annoying issue

After intstalling the trial for BerryBuzz, I noticed all my profiles got messed up ( ringtones changed and custom profiles GONE). So once i realised this, i went into the profiles and started changing them back, and re making my custom ones for specific contacts. WAIT... I should mention that I DO NOT have any pre-loaded ringtones since i deleted the net_rim_bb_medialoader_ringtones_240x320_b file. ANYWAYS, while I was fixing my profiles, I noticed all the names of the preloaded rintones are in the list.... How is that possible since I dont have them loaded on the phone.

So I went into the media app and sure enough, the preloaded ringtones section is empty. So I went back to the profiles icon and tried to listen to the ringtones, and ALL OF THEM make a "DON DON DON" sound... kinda like a piano, but really flat sounding. And it has been really annoying since all my profiles are set with these mysterious tones.

But whatever, i can change them right?? So who cares Right?? So my problem is, going up the list to change them to MY CUSTOM TONES takes like a minute to go up one line, then another minute for another one line, and so on. It is going to take me like an hour to change all 6 profiles(vibrate, quiet, custom, etc) Its like the phone is searching really hard to find something that isn't there.

So I tried putting the ringtones back on... did 2 battery pulls. Then took the ringtone file off again... another like 6 battery pulls (just to make sure) and no change. The ringtones are still there and it still takes like 10 minutes just to get to the top of the list where my custom tones are.

I dont want to upgrade to the newest OS (.278 i think) since i have been having 0 problems with this OS. (If it aint broke dont fix it right??) PLUS, last time i did an OS upgrade, all my callendar appointments got moved forward one week, REALLY BAD!!! So i was wondering if there is a way to delete everything off the phone then reload the exact same OS back on. Then maybe these stupid mystery ringtones will be gone.

Did you backup everything with your dm? If so... You could simply wipe and reload it! Ringtones and everything would be back to the way they were previously! Also let me throw in here... If you did the backup, you can mess with the Advance restore to fix your problems... Well sometimes! You need the original backup to get what your askin for!

NO... The one time I DIDN'T do a backup, I really wasn't expecting BerryBuzz to cause any problems

Guess I'm gunna upgrade to .278, I can always downgrade if I run into any problems.

If anyone reading this has a 8220 WITHOUT the preloaded ringtones... DONT INSTALL BerryBuzz!!!

ya you can move to any ow you want... Up or down. Let me ask you this... Do you have an old backup... We might be able to piece some together in an advanced restore!

not on this computer... My sister has my laptop. THIS SUCKS
I just downloaded the new OS... Guess thats my only option.
I really dont feel like waiting till she gives me my computer back, She lives in Alberta, and Im in Ontario. So who knows how long it'll take to mail it back

backup your phone and do the advanced restore, just don't add back profiles! :fing02:

I have no idea how to do an advanced restore...

I just tried to do an upgrade to .278 and forgot to disconnect the internet, So it ended up doing a downgrade to the native rogers .174. BUT the ringtones are gone... so i guess it worked out.
I wrote down all my appointments first. This time it changed all my callendar entries to a day later. But at least this time I was prepared. :fing02:

So finally 3 hours later... my bb is back to normal

Now I am going to take your advice and do a backup, then load it onto a flash drive. Now no matter what I do, I can always go back to the way it is now.

I really hate this technical stuff. My brain hurts :banghead:

Next time I screw things up, I'll message you and you can explain the advanced restore thingy... Until then, I'll just spank my BB when she's bad :lmao:

Honestly, thats the only thing that keeps me going. Knowing no matter how screwed up it gets... I will always have help fixing it.

I'd be willing to bet if you reloaded the preloaded ringtones (put the COD file back with BBSAK is an option) the slowdown problem would disappear, as it would be able to find what it's looking for.

Then, fix your profiles and once they are set; delete the COD again.

I see you've fixed the problem with a reload, but keep this in mind if it happens again.

I tried putting the cod back on, fixing all the profiles, then took the cod back off.. then a battery pull. Nothing changed, the ringtones were still in the list. At least I got to fix my profiles, But I wanted them gone 100%. So an upgrade was the only possible solution.
