Thread: Trackball - Double click issue

Hello All,

This is an interesting thing. I have owned several BlackBerry phones with trackballs and this particular 8130 is just another BB I bought because the price was reasonable. I picked it up for $15 so it isn't like I need to have it work perfectly.

Here is the issue. When I highlight any home screen icon and press the trackball down and release it, it performs a double click. Once on the way down and once on the way back up. For example; when I select options from the home screen and press down, it opens the main directory for further refining. When the trackball is released, off it goes to whatever was highlighted from the last time I was in the options menu. I have never seen this before and it is interesting to watch it do this.

This is not a big deal since the work-around in many instances is using the "enter key" to make my selections. I am mostly using this as a spare phone for those instances when I "507" my Storm and need a BlackBerry to get back in business quickly.

I was just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this, and what, if anything, can be done to make it work like it is supposed to work.

I would add at this time that I replaced the trackball assembly with a spare I had lying around to see if the problem would go away.....no dice.

howdy, ok what OS version do you have on the phone? as well as third party apps? And have you checked the settings for the trackball sensitivity?

Hi, I am having the same issue as InsureIt describes above. At times the phone thinks I am clicking the track ball when I am definitely NOT. I also replaced the trackball and no dice. Pllllease let me know how I can fix this. It happens a lot with any type of messaging. The phone automatically sends blank messages and partial messages because it thinks I am clicking the track ball. I try to keep thrid party apps to a minimum and run OS 4.5.0.81 (I think). Any ideas will help and will be greatly appreciated.

mooshdog I'm assuming your sporting a 8130 also?

Something you could try is removing your trackball, get a can of Aerosol Spray (Make sure your phone is OFF when you do this) and clean it out. mooshdog, has your phone ever gotten wet? Also same for the OP - granted you just bought it do you know of any water damage?

Hi ShimmyShine, thanks for getting back to me. I have the Curve 8320. I cannot recall any water damage. I also had some techies down the street replace the trackball and use the areosol spray. I could try to have them do it again if you think it'll help. Is there a way to tell if there has been water damage?
