Thread: 8130 Pearl Radio keeps turning off!!

Hey guys!! I have a friend who has an 8130 Pearl and the radio keeps turning off on its own. I upgraded to the latest OS on his phone to see if this would solve the problem and it didn't. It keeps a connection for about 10 seconds and then shuts off again. Battery power is currently at 85%. I can't figure it out. I've also tried numerous battery pulls.

Any other ideas??

Sounds like you got all the basis covered.

When you upgraded him did you wipe the phone first?

If so I would see if he could take it back

Yeah I did a wipe too. The radio was shutting off before the upgrade too. That's why I did the upgrade to see if it would make a difference and it didn't.

Yep no problem sorry I couldn't be of more help. just sounds like an issue only a replacement will fix.

This may seem really asinine but try this (I've had it work enough times for it to be suggested):

Go into Manage Connections > Check Mobile Network > Wait for the Signal Bars, give it a second, then pull the battery out for a minute, put the battery back in. I'd say, out of 10 times, I've seen this work 4, but worth a shot.

has this phone ever been exposed to water?

Not that I know of J...

I'm going to downgrade his phone to the latest Telus OS so he can take it back to them tomorrow and try to get a new one.... unless someone else has any other ideas....

He doesnt have any apps like force radio on or anything that have gone nuts does he?

Nope, no apps at all!! Just your basic run of the mill, no web plan, Blackberry 8130 Pearl on Telus!!

Hi,

I have an 8310 pearl (CDMA) and it is also turning its radio off every few seconds.
Battery is good, firmware is up to date..
Aaarrggg, any suggestions (besides replacing the phone) ?

Welcome to ! Have you tried wiping and reinstalling the OS?

Had the same problem. VZW told me that they have a problem with the radio. Only way to fix is to replace the phone since its a hardware problem. Had to upgrade to the storm - so I can't wait for the new pearl to come out really don't like the storm - even though it works quit well with the latest OS.
I went through 3 pearls and they wouldn't replace it for free. So I have a 3 month old pearl with a broken radio.

I have had this issue happen with me twice.
I am with Bell...But I really don't think it's a service issue as when you manually turn the connection on it you get signal again. Even when the radio signal says "off" for the phone, when you call your number (with another phone) you get a dial tone before it goes to your voicemail. If it's functioning perfectly on the other end I think it's just the 8130 that's the problem.

I have had friends where it's happened to them and this is my 2nd pearl which now has the same problem.

When I went to the store I bought my 8130 the first time, they reset the phone and it didn't fix the problem.

And now that's it's died again, I've updated the firmware, and called customer service where they told me to run a diagnostics test which hasn't fixed my problem.

The customer service rep. said it's happened often and since my phone is out of warranty I have to return it and get a new phone...though they know it's a reoccurring thing and they get this issue a lot with the pearls...


I don't think it's a hardware issue only cause you can turn the radio back on and it works in seconds...and turns off again 10 seconds later...If it was a hardware issue when the receptors are broken then you wouldn't be able to turn it back on at all?



Or am I just technically illiterate and have bad deduction skills?
