Updated step by step on Shrink A OS
OK Lyricidal has released a new version of Shrink A OS (V 3.0.3) that now combines Swap A Radio. I figured I would do a walk through on this new version since it not only combines Swap but also has a lot of other neat features included with it.
As always before you use Shrink please have the following installed on your PC
- Netframework 3.5 you can download it Here
- WinRar (which is the zip program used on this program) you can download it Here
First thing you want to do is download Shrink A OS Here
Once downloaded it you will need to extract the .exe from the zip file (I usually just drag it to my desktop). Once that is done double click to open Shrink (if you are on Vista or higher you will need to right click on the icon and choose run as admin before opening)
Once you have opened Shrink you will see the following screen. Click the browse button (highlighted in red) and browse to your OS folder
Now navigate to your OS folder located at C>program files>common files>research in motion>shared>loader files and select your OS folder you want to shrink
Once you select your OS folder a new message will pop up informing you of how many MBs your java folder is currently
Now go through and make your selections for the items you want removed from your OS. Once done click the shrink my os button, and a message will pop up telling you the new size of your java folder
Now at this point if you want to swap your radio as well select the radio file from drop down list on the right. If you are a 9500 user make sure to check mark the "9500 user" option before selecting the radio in order to get the correct list of radio files. Once you have your radio file selected slick the "swap my radio" button. Now this will take a minute or two before seeing the confirmation box, since the program is downloading the radio file from the server. Once complete you will see this confirmation on your screen.
Now all this is left to do is make sure your phone is plugged into your PC and click the "launch loader" button to install your OS on your phone. When using Shrink A OS the program will automatically delete the vendor file for you, so no need to worry about that step.
If you want to swap your radio only then just follow these steps but don't select any options to remove and no need to use the "shrink my os" button. Just select what radio file you would like and click the "swap my radio" button, then once you get the confirmation that your radio has been swapped click the "launch loader" button.
**update**
I have received several questions on the "add all 5.0 files" button and what is does. If you click that button it will download and add to your OS all the working 5.0 files that Lyricidal has found work on the phone.
