    BlackBerry Launches Widgets SDK!

For awhile there has been talk about Research In Motion (RIM) making software for us BlackBerry users to have the ability for widgets. RIM has just announced the release of BlackBerry Widget SDK 1.0 Beta 1, which includes the BlackBerry Widget Packager 1.0 Beta 1, a BlackBerry Device Simulator, documentation and code samples. With so many things we can see come from widgets on our devices, wonder what will come first?

The BlackBerry Widget Packager 1.0 Beta 1 is a new tool that allows web developers to package up their web assets into BlackBerry Widgets (small, discrete, standalone web applications that use HTML, CSS and JavaScript). A BlackBerry Widget looks, behaves and has the same security mechanisms as a native BlackBerry application. BlackBerry Widgets can be installed on a BlackBerry smartphone like any native application and can be extended to use device-specific information and data using the BlackBerry Widget APIs.

So what are you waiting for!? If this interests you go out and make some widgets!

Don't forget to take a look at the new BlackBerry Simulator for OS 5. It comes with a 9500 simulator that has OS 5.0.0.252 on it.
